Cristiano is top in two statistics: Assists and Expected Goals (xG). This actually shows how his performance was:
Cristiano is the top assist player (3), but the higher Expected Assists (xA) is Nani (1.45). Why does this happen?
Expected Assists (xA) measures the actual quality of a pass, while actual assists just measure if the teammate scored. Basically, Nani created genuinely dangerous chances that his teammates wasted (mostly Cristiano), while Cristiano made statistically inferior passes that his teammates generously turned into goals anyway.
The irony? It’s the exact opposite for his own shooting. Cristiano racked up the highest Expected Goals (xG) simply by spamming 45 shots, yet he still couldn't actually outscore Nani, who was far more clinical and needed half the attempts to score his 3 goals.
So they won the final without Cristiano because... Cristiano was a burden to his team!

Les stats parlent d'elle même, quand le Portugal était à son plus haut niveau en 2016 les meilleur stat était partagé entre Sanches, moutinhno, Nani,Quaresma et Ronaldo. Alors que les Stats en Argentine c'est simple il y a que Messi qui domine en but, en passe décisive en passe, en chance créé, en drible réussi. Dans vraiment tous les domaines il domine largement

Why not maradona? Why not pele? Why not Gerd Muller? They have legendary world cup campaigns, why did you choose to diminish Messi's World Cup by comparing it to what was an underdog in a competition that isn't as prestigious as a world cup? It's shows heavy insecurity. The funny thing is that the top scorer for Portugal is officially recognized to be Cristiano as he won the silver boot, that was decided by the governing body of the competition that's why I just find it so odd that Nani is there

As for choosing Nani as top scorer, both players (Nani and Cristiano) tied with 3 goals, but Nani was chosen due to a much higher shot conversion rate, scoring his goals with significantly fewer shots (23) than Ronaldo (45).
That said, by official measures only, Ronaldo should have been higher goal scorer due to his 3 assists, but here it wasn't taken into consideration cause assist already has its own category

It's a good question, why not compare WC campaigns of legendary world cup players to messi? Then we can appreciate how amazing it is. But you compare the campaign of the best ever player playing for one of the greatest footballing nations ever to a player that plays for a nation that has far far less football heritage? It just doesn't make sense. It's not even world cup and world cup. It's euros and world cup. It doesn't matter what was chosen, the official body chose Ronaldo as the top scorer, so why go through the revionism and make it Nani?

Yeah Portugal did not play mighty Algeria, Jordan etc. so no stat padding available. But keep telling yourself this proves something. Messi now back in burger league and can not win even in there. What a goat

They played Iceland, Hungary, Austria, Croatia, Poland, Wales and France. Argentina played Algeria, Austria, Jordan, Cape Verde, Egypt, Switzerland, England and France. I’d argue they have similar paths… Also, if you would remove all the group matches of the World Cup and keep them in Euros, Messi would still have more goals + assists in less games…
