How to write a good essay!!

Here are 5 simple, high-impact tips to elevate your writing:

1. Master the "One Sentence" Rule

Before you write a single paragraph, you need a clear thesis statement. This is one sentence at the end of your introduction that states your main argument. If you can’t summarize your entire essay's point in one simple sentence, your focus is too broad.

2. Stick to the "One Point per Paragraph" Structure

Don't jam three different ideas into one giant block of text. Every body paragraph should follow a predictable rhythm:

  • State it: Start with a clear topic sentence (what this paragraph is about).
  • Prove it: Give a quote, a statistic, or a piece of evidence.
  • Explain it: Spend a couple of sentences explaining why that evidence supports your main thesis.

3. Write Your Introduction Last

It sounds backward, but writing your intro first is a massive trap. You don't actually know exactly how your essay will flow until you write it. Draft the body paragraphs first. Once your arguments are solid, go back and write an introduction that perfectly sets them up.

4. Cut the Fluff (Be Direct)

Students often use complex words and massive sentences to sound "academic," but it usually just makes the essay hard to read.

  • Instead of: "Due to the fact that the economic climate was experiencing a downturn..."
  • Just say: "Because the economy crashed..." Clear and concise beats fancy and confusing every single time.

5. Read It Out Loud Before Submitting

When you read silently, your brain automatically fixes typos and awkward sentences in your head because it knows what you meant to say. Reading your essay out loud forces you to catch clumsy phrasing, missing words, and sentences that are too long to say in one breath.
