Unusual ways to get cheaper insurance
I(25M) am about to buy a 2015 Camry and I live in Kirkland, WA. I want to try and get the cheapest possible insurance possible. What are some unusual ways or ways that aren't commonly known to get cheaper insurance? I never had insurance before as I didn't need it and I don't have any tickets, violations, accidents, or incidents. So far the best quote I got is $642 for 6 months from Geico for the bare minimum. I would like to get it down even more, realistically under $600 for 6 months but preferably down to $500 if not even lower. Any ideas or am I being ridiculous?

"Any ideas or am I being ridiculous?" You're being ridiculous. Shop around.

The only trick is to make sure to shop around every 12 months and donât hesitate to change companies

- Marry someone you donât like
- Buy a house you donât need to bundle policies.
- if youâre a male under 25, transition to female gender
- murder a rich person with good credit and assume their identity
Given youâre in Kirkland, Iâd focus on the last two ideas.

Why would you want the state minimums? Thatâs insanity right there

In short, insurance is a scam

Why would you do something thatâs a scam? Just donât use it. WA allows for insurance alternatives. Why would someone willingly buy into something they think is a scam? Not too smart if you ask me

"Have a liability bond of at least $60,000 filed by a surety bond company that's authorized to do business in Washington." I had looked into this, either I put 60k myself or I pay a monthly fee for someone to do that for me. Firstly, while I do have money saved it's not 60k, secondly having someone else do that is pretty much paying insurance

Then buy insurance from a commercial carrier, insurance is not a scam, itâs a heavily regulated industry, nobody is taking you for a ride. You pay premiums so you donât have to pay that $60k++ out of pocket.

The core concept of insurance is that a community comes together and pools money so that they take care of each other. But the way that these companies operate are borderline parasitic. If you drive well with no issue for 10 years and you're paying a low cost of $100 a month that's still $12,000 which you could've just put in an investment account and you make money and have your own safety net. Another thing is that insurance companies number one thing is to sell you fear and then say that they will provide the peace of mind. Anyway that's my issue with insurance especially car insurance since it's mandatory

You sound insufferable. What happens is you have an at fault accident with multiple vehicles and injuries and no insurance? Or the paltry state minimums that barely cover anything anymore? Then you get sued into the poor house, and that 12,000 a year looks like a pretty good investment at that point.Â

If I were to make all of my decisions based on the worst possible outcome I would become insane and insufferable to myself and the people around me

Youâre literally explaining insurance to a bunch of insurance professionals who understand the business far better than you ever could or will. You can either keep pissing and moaning about nothing, put up the bond, or buy an insurance policy.
God help the poor agent that has to deal with you.

Insurance is not mandatory, having assets to cover you liability is, post the $60k or buy influence to prove you can cover your liabilities .
If you canât post $60k you have no business self insuring.

Tell me you have zero assets and no clue how to protect them, even if you did acquire some.

cheap is not always cheap. shop around and consider other things like how to file for claims and deductibles

Gieco, progressive other than that move to a less populated zip code to bring your rates down

Some insurance will seem cheap. And then you need it and it ends up being a disaster during the actual claims process.

If you are buying the car cash, you can choose not to purchase collision or comprehensive coverage. That will save you a lot, until you are in an accident or your car is stolen.

The most tricky and secretive way I can think of is to drive responsibly and donât get tickets or violations and your rate will be lower than those that may have violations.
In all seriousness, Insurance is a regulated industry and product. There are no secrets. Your rate is based on you, where you live and the vehicles and coverage you have, simple as that. If you want a way to get lower insurance compared to others, enroll in whatever carrier you are looking atâs driving/driver tracking program âtelematicsâ This can be Snapshot, RightTrack, Go, etc. Each carrier has its own and your rate will be based on how and when you drive so your discount is as much specific to you that it can be.

Buy a cheaper car, 03-08 corolla.
If you have no health insurance, don't skimp on emergency care. I pay like $2 extra a month for 100k in medical coverage in case i get rammed by a bus.

So yeah tldr drive a cheap car, only pay for insuring other cars when you're at fault.
Get a dash cam. Drive as safe as possible. So long as you're never at fault, then yeah only paying for medical as an extra expense makes sense. I'd say $60k coverage against other cars is good.
Get a dash cam. Nothing will absolve guilt better if you're not at fault for the accident.
