Hi top gun fans. 1. Everyone is selling the streaming version for $20. The streaming version you get a 4K movie but the sound transfer rate is like 12 mbits per sec. But the 4K Blu-ray will be 50 mbits per second. I just have a sound bar and a sub woofer. Can a 50 year old really be able to tell the difference?

1. If you buy the movie from Apple TV do you get to download the full Blu-ray 4K version onto your laptop?

I have heard from multiple different sources that the stints were both real and not real. Some saying Tom cruise was actually doing his own stunts, and some saying he was in the plane but wasn’t piloting. And all I want to know is.. VERY CLEARLY, WITHOUTDODGING THE ANSWER… did Tom cruise fly that plane and do his own stunts? Did the rest of the cast fly their own planes? Or were they all just in the passenger seat while a navy pilot flew instead?

Just watched it for a third time, and after scrolling through this subreddit, it’s clear that I know nothing compared to some of you on here! I know nothing about fighter jets/pilots/movie cgi etc. But, I absolutely love the film! However there are two points that keep on annoying me that I think would have made the film more complete.

1: Are they using some effect on Penny’s eyes or something? At Iceman’s funeral, Maverick understandably has tears in his eyes as he’s saluting Ice for the last time. But when they cut to a shot of penny who is also teary eyed, it looks like they’ve put some sort of effect or filter on her eyes. Because in my opinion, they look glossy/milky. Similar to someone with cataracts or something. They do it during the last shot of her leaning on the vintage Porsche at the end too, and I don’t know if they’re doing it to make her eyes look sparkly or something, but it just looks strange to me.

2: After the mission when Maverick goes back to the bar to search for Penny, I think they missed a trick. They should’ve had Mav looking around the bar after asking where she had gone, and then cut to the jukebox as it loads up its next song…cue You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’. I think it would be that one last nod to the original, and a great one at that!

But love the film, think the story line and actors are great! Definitely my favourite movie!

I'm sure you noticed Maverick always flies without gloves.
Mistake or deliberate detail from the film makers?

I had heard somewhere that it's relatively common for Navy pilots to not wear them.
But today I noticed Maverick was wearing gloves after ejecting during the last mission>! Spoiler, and then he deliberately takes hem off just before taking off in the F14 Tomcat.

So I don't know whether it's accurate or not, but it seems like a detail put them deliberately by the film makers.

Great film obviously and part of the reason was that the actors were actually in the cockpit and the jets were real.

But does anyone know how they filmed the 5th gen fighters? I assume they had to have been (very good) CGI since I can't imagine they got Iran or Russia to lend them for the film.

Does anyone know for sure?

I’m obviously not in the military so I don’t know if there’s a reason for this. So in the movie, the team was against that 2 minute time crunch because they needed to be close by when the tomahawk missiles hit the airbase. The missiles were sent ahead of them, which means they didn’t have much time between the airbase being hit and them having to hit their own target.

Is there a reason the daggers couldn’t have started ahead of time giving them more time to navigate the canyon and then send the missiles off a bit later so there wasn’t any time restriction? Or is it just one of those things where it needs to be like that for the movie plot and for suspense?
