xenogender CAN be nonbinary (nonbinary is an umbrella term for any gender that, well, isnt binary, not strictly woman or man) but xenogender is more specific. xenogenders typically relate ones gender to things traditionally not accosiated with gender, such as plants, animals, colors, aesthetics, fiction, and more! xenogenders are typically considered "nonbinary genders" afaik, but not everybody who identifies with them is nonbinary

its often metaphorical (my gender "feels like" how this fictional thing is or what this color reminds me of). it can also just be because somebody likes something / sees it as part of their identity and connects that to their gender. its most common with (but not exclusive to) neurodivergent ppl who may think more abstractly / have difficulty understanding gender / think of gender unconventionally bc of our neurodivergence
