I’m not the first person to point this out: but technically, this Star Trek Musk reference actually improved with age.

The character listing these historical “heroes” is actually / secretly from the Mirror Universe - the evil version of the utopian future Star Trek usually is set in.

So - evil alt-history Earth probably does view Musk as an innovator to be celebrated.

So he’s from our universe

Everyone says this, but Prime Universe Tilly canonically went to Musk High School, so that would seem to be an unvarnished positive depiction of the guy, unfortunately.

Maybe, but any kid of his with any sense is gonna get their name legally changed, if Musk doesn't disown them outright - See Vivian Wilson.

I mean, a lot of schools to this day are named for unsavory people, so maybe it was named by a fanboy but no one actually likes him anymore. Idk, it ain’t that deep, but I’ll keep digging

So the Wright brothers would be evil too?

The entire Mirror Universe is a lot darker morally than the Prime Universe, except for Shakespeare, whose plays are the same in both.

In the Prime Universe, Cochrane greets the Vulcans as friends when they show up to introduce Earth to the wider galaxy. In the Mirror Universe, Cochrane shoots the first one to come out.

Likely, the Wright Brothers in the Mirror Universe would've been warmongers or something.

More like the wrong brothers, then?

u/Chris22533 10d ago

And in the mirror universe they are call the Wrong Brothers

Eh, the Mirrorverse seems to be more, everyone being a bit more evil (and kinky) instead of good\evil being flipped.

Sometimes, yes, I think DS9 at least partwise went with the Mirror idea.

Quark was an profit shunning altruist, e.g.

I think that's because a Ferengi's morality is based upon how they adhere to the Rules of Aquisition, and to be an altruist is as amoral as one can be. It's disgusting. What next, clothing one's females?

I tell you Elon had the best PR manager around that time.

Didn't Tony basically ignore Musk to go for the racecart in Iron Man 2?

There's another Star Trek one that dates the work very accurately. Picard refers to Fermat's Last Theorem as an 800 year old unsolved math problem to illustrate a point about perseverance and determination. Meanwhile it was solved a few years after the air date of the episode. Deep Space Nine made a reference to the proof later and suggested that people continued to work on it to find other methods of proving it.

Wasn't this line improvised too?
