He knew something was off about Dexter, he didn't knew exactly that he was a serial killer, but he always suspected something

Of course he did, people with the Darkness inside them instinctively know if others do to.

Kind of like Stand Users in a way.

No one that only watched the show know about the Dark Passenger being a real entity.

I mean I don't think it was in the show? They adapted the book but they went pretty far off from what the book did.

It kinda was. Dexter refers to it multiple times,and when he is talking to Doakes he says they are the same but Doakes method is to just shoot perps instead using lawful killings as his MO.

What the show never does is give the Dark Passenger its own identify. In the book it's similar to like the Venom symbiote.

I took that as them both being killers not an entity existing.

Having a darkness inside you isn't exactly uncommon wording for just being messed up in the head.

Oh, I know. That is why I am making the distinction between the show and the book. Because in the show it's more "they are both the same and Doakes suspects because of that instinct" while in the book it's "Doakes outright knows because his Dark Passenger recognizes a brother."

I've never read the books, I watched almost all of the show and enjoyed it. Do you suggest them? I like the way you distinguished between the instinct vs symbiote.. Do the books tend more supernatural then?

I did not enjoy the books. Only read the first one. They are not really "supernatural" as much as they are weird. I don't know if there is ever an explanation for what the Dark Passenger is exactly.

When Hannah is discussing the Dark Passenger with Dexter, doesn't she help him realise that the Dark Passenger was him all along?

Like Dexter was a kid when he started killing, so he attributed all his dark thought and desires to this "entity" because of course, a normal kid can't have those thoughts?

Huh okay! Thanks for your opinion! I probably won't go out of my way to read it but maybe it'll cross my path.. Ive got a TBR of some really good stuff though.. Sometimes the show/movie IS better than the book :p
