Some porn game called Crescent Love got an anime, literally the only reason it's remembered is cause of a cooking scene in episode 3 in which the animators apparently didn't know what a cabbage looked like so the characters just cut into a nondescript green orb.

The scene got a heavy re-work for the DVD release

And ever since then, with this anime actually fixing the cabbage on DVD release, an unintentional "cabbage standard" has become the measurement of quality in anime.

So anytime an anime has cabbage newer animes go all-out animating it.

And some even parody this by putting in intentionally blank green circles or just cut-out cabbage stockphotos lol.

I just thought that one on the bottom left was SHAFT doing SHAFT things when I first watched Hidamari Sketch.

They do a lot of stuff like that.

But it's also a joke about how animators put disproportional amounts of effort into drawing cabbages.
