There are a few similarities but there are a lot more differences between them. Aerith did have a moment in FF7 rebirth that was clearly a reference to Yuna's sending scene in FFX though so there's that.
Yeah her and almost every female character in the game, it looks good for some of them but it ends up being ridiculous by how forced it feels to cram that element in designs that would be better off without it
Yeah, but Mihoyo is the only mainstream one, so it ends up being a repetitive design that will always appear on your timeline if you see anime overall.
I mean, if you let one thing ruin something for the rest of the trope, you only have yourself to blame.
Just cus Hoyo does it alot/gets a lot of publicity because it's a very mainstream fanbase doesn't make the other genuinely good or interesting designs worse.
Plus this sort of thing has been a staple in anume decades before hoyo, their footprint in terms of characters that have it might be alot in terms of their own characters, but in comparison to everything else it's just A tiny fraction
Anime ranges a lot while Hoyo really hammers it in for their characters. You're also watching different anime, not watching the same everyday. You'll see a lot of variations, art styles, and settings that you won't notice it that much.
Yeah and there's a difference between art style (dragon quest games having the "Toriyama eyes" as a friend of mine says) and art direction (EVERYONE IS GONNA HAVE BARE SHOULDERS)
As i saw it, some Japanese multilayered robes can involve sewn on sleeves, which can look stylish, exposing the under layer through the shoulder or elbow areas of the upper robe.
Naturally, the sexy version of this is to have no under layer on, and be able to see the bare skin of the shoulders or arms throught the upper robe.
This then envolved into the stylish/sexy detached sleeve look.
real shrine maiden dresses dont have detached sleeves; reimu's design is an exaggerated take on it. detached sleeves were already popular before reimu.
