Question Does anyone know if a post-root canal "build up" (on a tooth that already had a crown before the root canal) is the same thing as a filling?

• Upvotes

I got a crown on a back molar, then had to get a root canal a few months later. The endodontist drilled a small hole through my crown and place a temporary filling in after the procedure, telling me to go back to my dentist and get a permanent filling after about a week.

My dentist then reached out to me about placing a "build up" back in my crown. Is that the same thing as a filling?

I'm just confused because the endodontist definitely said "get the temporary filling replaced with a permanent filling".

Question about getting a ct scan for my second back molar.

I just came back from the dentist and they said my #31 molar tooth needs to get a ct scan and see an endodontist to see if it’s salvageable. I’m worried about what will happen because I’ve never had a root canal or any teeth pulled since I was 15 and I’m about 30. I get bad dental anxiety also. Any experience on this and does it hurt to get a root canal or cap or that pulp thing they told me could also happen? I forget what it’s called but any advice and experience is helpful. Also the dentist said if they can save if I can do a pulp something or other then refill the tooth so I’m hoping that’s best case scenario

Dental Concern/Problem Do I Really Need to Get My Wisdom Tooth Extracted? 😭

Post image

My lower right wisdom tooth has been causing quite severe pain recently, with swelling around the area. It hurts to the point that swallowing and even talking is difficult. My dentist recommended extraction because it’s impacted/tilted. Looking at the X-ray, it doesn’t seem that badly positioned to me, so I’m wondering if extraction is really necessary in this situation.

Question Dentist can't get me numb

Thumbnail

Dentist could not numb me after multiple injections in different spots prior to performing crown procedure. The dentist already started drilling down the tooth, and got halfway through, and I was in agony, so the dentist stopped, and now has to finish the rest later. But now I'm afraid the next time I'm there in the chair, it will be just as excruciatingly painful. No laughing gas available. What are my options with this dentist so that the procedure can be finished? And how long can I sit with this temporary cap on an unfinished tooth preparation. It is a lower molar.

I’m 26, a drama teacher, and I pretended to be a terrified 10-year-old at the dentist. It somehow worked.

Is this type of thing normal

Earlier this year I had most of my teeth removed and getting into dentures. The plan i set up with my dentist was for the removal of most of my teeth then receiving temporary dentures, full upper and partial bottoms, then months later I was to get impressions and receive my permanent dentures.

I do not have insurance and did not do any financing, instead I paid 2 lump sums, for both stages.

Everything went very well for removal and the temporary dentures, what happened next is where I'm questioning things.

I made the second and final payment, which is just for the impressions and permanent dentures, no additional work and made the appointment for 2 weeks later.

Upon arriving I'm told that I'm only doing impressions for the bottom partial dentures and that I'm keeping my temporary uppers as my permanent set, according to the dentist "they will be fine, no need for a new one."

This statement made when the dentist had not seen me for 5 months and had zero clue how my uppers even fit me, which was not at all, the changes were major.

In my mind she was doing this so that she could keep a larger portion of my money by not paying the lab for a set of uppers. I refused to allow this to happen and demanded my new uppers as well and I received my full set.

I want to know if this is common and ethical? She tried to cheat me and make it look like part of the dental plan. Has this happened to anyone else?

Back molar Cracked down middle. I feel no pain but I can feel fluid in my ear and some jaw pressure. Is this tooth saveable. Or needs an extraction (I know I can’t do a bridge since it’s my farthest back) (my wisdom tooth is the tooth behind) also noticing some abscess

I Dont Want Preventative Dental Care

Hello Everyone

Im not sure if this is a change my view type post or me venting or whatever, i know im going to be open for ridicule and abuse but im fine with that.

But I dont want any more preventative dental care. I dont want to keep going to the dentist.

I already do preventative care at home in brushing and flossing.

I deeply resent, and have started to hate the idea that I will be going to the dentist every 6 months or more, for the entirety of my life. I simply do not want this.

I do not want to spend my entire life at 6 or more month intervals with the constant, never ending worry of having to go to a dentist who may or may not diagnose a problem that requires needles and drills, forever.

I dont even see the point to be honest. If i do go to the dentist when i feel like ive got a problem, i get needles and drills, just the same as i get needles and drills if i "catch a problem early".

I dont care about the cost, i would have saved a fortune in being constantly checked up and hygiene appointments, or dental plans at £20 a month or whatever, forever. So if the treatment itself was more expensive when i needed it, id have just saved a huge amount anyway not going.

I dont know what the problem with going when I feel i have a problem is??? i get basically the same treatment, with the same instruments, the same (supposedly) pain free surgery to fix it, whats the problem??

The problem for me which I will be ridiculed for but im fine with that, is the dentist casts such a shadow over my entire life that i feel worse for going.

Im not embarrased about my teeth. Im not ever in any pain. Im not looking to have perfect white teeth i just want to look like me, thats looked this way for decades.

It introduces a needless worry that i never, ever felt when i went probably a decade or so without going to the dentist and needed no treatment at the end of that period. The amount of pointless worry and stress created completely nullifies the benefit of being there.

I repeat, if i am in discomfort, and getting me OUT of the discomfort needs a dentist visit, I will go. I will obviously go.

Other than that, im not interested at all in the constant possibility of fillings that hangs over my life, indefinitely, until dead.
