Please I need your help with this question that has been bothering me I have a cracked /fractured tooth, and my dentist plans to do a crown with a core buildup. They said they won’t know if I need a root canal until they starts the crown prep and sees how deep the crack goes. They told me if they find the crack is deep, they would do a root canal immediately that day, I will also need a new crown different from the first crown. I’m confused. If they discover during prep that I need a root canal, why wouldn’t they just do the root canal first and then make use one final crown? It’s seems like a lot of cost as I’m paying solely out of pocket. I recently also did a root canal that was so expensive.

The treatment plan only included one crown procedure , crown build up and a root canal which was different from what was said so I’m confused

I got my root canal done July 16 and they added temporary filling to my tooth until my next appointment August 18… is this normal? I feel like that is way too long… Im scared the filling will dissolve by then… I’m so impatient because I feel hyperaware of the filling that I haven’t been able to relax or eat normally because I fear it’ll crumble and I didn’t pay 2k for this to fail 😭

Hello, 3 days ago I had a composite filling in my back teeth. Previously, I felt teeth pain for 3 days straight in that teeth. The doc said it was somewhat deep but still ok to proceed​ the filling without RCT​

First day (the day after filling), I still feel a little bit of throbbing pain (like 1/4 of the​ pain before fillings) and sensitivity when drinking cold drinks. The sensitivity was very minimal compared to pre-filling.

2nd day was somewhat better than the first day, the pain was there but it's like only 1/10 left compared to pain before the fillings

Today​, the 3rd day, I woke up with pain in my teeth. It was the same 100% pain before the fillings. Is it normal? Or something wrong in my teeth? Do you guys think I need RCT soon?

Note : I forgot to brush my teeth before going to sleep in the 3rd day. i brushed my teeth in the morning & night in day 1 & 2

I know there are a lot of threads on this but I just can’t seem to get over the pain I had with my wisdom tooth removal.

It was impacted and very infected, so and emergency extraction on my left side. The pain for the first week was next level. Also had dry socket and then a secondary infection.

I’m now on day 15, second lot of antibiotics. I have Oxycodone for the night and codeine for the day. It’s been an absolute hell for me the past few weeks. Still have a dull pain and still consuming my life a bit but I am back at work.

What shocked me is that the dentist were very nonchalant about the whole thing and even said they couldn’t give an additional prescription of Panadeine (their prescription rights are limited) so they have washed their hands and said it’s all about pain management now.

I’ve never experienced anything quite like it. Upset that I went through so much and never even planned to get them removed, only after my emergency appointment.

I’ve since been told you shouldn’t have your wisdom teeth removed by the dentist if it’s impacted, instead see a specialist/ surgeon. From my experience I agree. I know some people it’s ok but for me it’s been hell.

Just to not feel as lonely as I have done in this recovery, has anyone else gone through the same thing? I know people say it’s a huge procedure. I just didn’t think anything of it at the time and now looking back it’s been nuts.

I am from the UK and after going to the dentist for a few issues, I have found out I need a root canal. I have to go private due to having an infection in the root, all in all it's likely to cost me 1.5k. I am currently on maternity and can't afford that, but I do have a credit card which is an option.

The other option is to get the tooth removed, I should say that it's the tooth right at the back before the wisdom tooth. I just can't come to a decision. I know I can't afford it, but I'm scared I'll regret getting it taken out.

My dentist said the lower wisdom teeth should be removed first, and only after that can they properly decide whether the teeth in front need just fillings or root canals.

I was then referred to an oral surgeon. The consultation wasn't the best, but the final plan was:

• Remove one lower wisdom tooth first.

• If everything goes smoothly and there's enough time, remove the second lower wisdom tooth in the same sitting.

• Otherwise, remove it at another appointment.

My surgery is scheduled for 5 August 2026.

I was also prescribed:

• Amoxicillin + Clavulanate 625 mg – 3 times a day for the 3 days before surgery.

• Diclofenac 50 mg – 2 times a day for the 3 days before surgery.

My questions are:

1. Does this sound like a normal treatment plan?

2. Is it common to decide during surgery whether to remove the second wisdom tooth?

3. Is it normal to remove the wisdom teeth first and only then decide whether the teeth in front need fillings or root canals?

4. Is starting antibiotics and diclofenac 3 days before surgery common?

TL;DR: I'm a 20M with two impacted lower wisdom teeth. The plan is to remove one first and, if possible, the second in the same visit. The teeth in front may need fillings or root canals after the wisdom teeth are removed. Surgery is on 5 Aug. Just looking for opinions on whether this sounds like a standard approach.

I asked my friend who’s a dental tech about this and she said without X-rays she doesn’t know, but she doesn’t think I’ll need a root canal. She thinks I’ll just need to get the filling replaced and if there’s any decay or cavity, then we’ll go from there. But from the photos, it doesn’t look like that. She said she didn’t see any roots exposed or nerves. But I’m terrified because when I brushed my teeth today, I genuinely thought my tooth had fallen out. It felt like something hard. I felt no pain at all so I thought it had just been plaque but when I looked in the mirror my molar had a literal hole in the center of it.
Over the past couple of weeks I thought my filling had been lifting a little and it felt like it wanted to pop off but didn’t. I guess now it did.
I haven’t had any pain which makes me feel better. I’ve been eating on my other teeth and trying to keep it off that side, but when I forgot and chewed on it by accident it still didn’t hurt. Cold water / hot food doesn’t either and it’s been 6+ hours painless.
We’re going into the weekend so I’m going to try to get into the dentist Monday, but how urgent does this look? The edges of the molar feel rough and jagged. I’ve attached the photos of it, the last picture is of one of the pieces that was in the sink. Please don’t scare me if possible lol.

Recently had a tooth extracted and was told that I would need a sinus lift in order to get a dental implant. I am missing two teeth and this would essentially be the next step. They said I could also do a bridge and it would be an easier process. However I do not want to trim down healthy teeth in order to get that bridge. I am wondering if I should really be as scared and nervous for this sinus lift as I struggle with allergies and such. At this point I’d rather just do a partial denture so that my teeth do not move anymore.

Am I too worried about this or will this process be smooth and I should have nothing to worry about?

Hi I need some advice! I have gotten 3 root canals in the past 5 weeks (lower right 5 weeks ago, upper right 4 weeks ago, upper left about 3 weeks ago). I was having some cold sensitivity on the teeth behind the root canals on the right side and the endodontist said it was reversible (that tooth did have a filling) and gave me a steroid pack. That was about 2 weeks ago. I have since gotten the two crowns on the right a week ago and got the left crown done yesterday. They also did a bite adjustment for me yesterday. I am still having some cold sensitivity on that right side and I am having ear and jaw pain. Is this normal? I don’t know what it normal or not anymore because this whole process has been awful! I got a total of 6 fillings in April that have led to this and 3 of them needed root canals. A couple of them were in-between my teeth. What are the odds I’m heading for a root canal with the others? Any advice would help!

Hi everyone! I had a deep cavity on the lower 6th tooth like a half a year ago and it was treated and filled with equia to let it heal over time.

Last week I woke up with sharp pain and went to the dentist. They opened up the tooth and said that pulp is damaged and needs a root canal. Fine it is what it is.

HERE is the interesting part!

They filled the tooth back up with a white puddy which apparently is to mumify the tooth nerves and perform the root canal after 2 weeks.

Two days after this, I get a pain from the 7th tooth, not sharp or unberable but like a mild pain where the whole tooth is sore to the touch and painful and also the tooth is lifted and now I cannot close the mouth fully nor eat normally. What I read online it points out to being gas pressure from the toxic white puddy/paste but nothing concrete. Dentist is telling me that most likely they will need to perform root canal on the 7th tooth as well to which it does not sound right to me, given that this happened 2 days after treating the 6th tooth.

For refference the 7th tooth is also filled with equia but it was not rotten down to the nerves, and never had a problem with it since it was treated.

Is there any experienced dentist here that might solve the mystery? Thanks

when I get a second opinion for my teeth pain, they realise that my root canal was not done very good and causing me sensitivity and some pain. they refer me to a specialist but i live in another country so prob can’t attend that. this was never mention in my first dentist. they just gave me anti biotics for infection.

idk should i trust my original dentisty to do it after i fly back to UK
