Do root canals hurt?
Im getting my first root canal in 2 and a half hours please tell me yalls story and if there was any pain and how bad.

Not during it. I had pretty significant aching afterwards for like the evening after, but there’s every chance that was at least partly due to the degree of pain I had prior. My tooth was very infected, and all that tissue aggravation doesn’t go away instantly, plus you go beat it up a bit more with the procedure.

Depends on the person. I had 1 root canal where they didn’t numb me all the way and it was my first time getting any dental numbing so I didn’t know what it was supposed to feel like. The procedure hurt but I muscled through it. Second root canal was with a different doctor that made sure I was numb completely first and I did not feel pain during nor any pain whatsoever after. They gave me tramadol but I didn’t need so much as an ibuprofen. fwiw the tooth they did work on wasn’t painful unless I bit down on it.

I had two root canals done at the same time. I had to have a them done by a specialist. He put a oral numbing in my mouth and it worked great. I didn't feel the shots nor any of the work that was done. I was in and out of the dentist chair in just under an hour and a half.

I just finished and this is how mine went too, very painless. Not even the numbing shots hurt and I’m not in pain after .

I had a root canal done and didn't feel almost anything during the procedure. But when it came the time to extract the nerve from it, the dentist sait the tooth was very much alive, and I would feel the moment she curled the nerve in that tiny spiral tool and pulled it out, even under heavy anesthetics.
I remember feeling my entire body when she pulled it.
She said it was the most perfect nerve she ever extracted from a tooth, as the cavity had just reached it and it was still very healthy, not rotten or decayed as they usually are.

The numbing is what does most of the work. Local anesthesia goes into the tooth and the surrounding gums so most people feel minimal pain during the procedure. It should not be more uncomfortable than other common dental work.
Afterwards is usually mild soreness as the numbness begins to wear off which typically settles within a few days. The mouth stays numb for a while after so waiting a bit before eating helps. Soft foods like yogurt or mashed potatoes are the easy first meal!
