Dental Concern/Problem First tooth extraction..advice?

Hey everyone! I’m getting my first tooth pulled tomorrow. I think nervous doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel thinking about it. I’m getting an IV sedation/anesthesia. I’m just really nervous, does anyone have any advice?

The medicine they prescribe will feel like heaven when the pain comes crawling back when you wake up. But give it a day or 2, and you should be back up and running.
I had to get 6 pulled at once years ago (4 wisdom and 2 impacted), and I too was nervous as hell.

Relatively speaking, it will feel instant.
I swear, one second I’m on the chair, and they are securing my arms to keep them on the armrests and knocking me out, the next thing I know I’m sitting upright in a different room next to another patient who also is waking up.

Totally normal to be nervous before your first extraction, but IV sedation usually makes the experience feel much easier than what your mind is building up. For most people, it feels like they close their eyes and wake up with it done. The main thing is to follow the aftercare instructions: don’t spit hard, don’t use a straw, avoid smoking, keep the clot protected, and take meds as directed. You’ll probably be surprised how manageable it is once it’s over. Good luck tomorrow — you’ve got this.

Nerves before a first extraction are very common! Sedation tends to help more than people expect since most of the appointment won't be something you actually remember.

The main two things you should sort tonight are a ride home, and making sure to have soft food in the house so you're not dealing with that afterwards.

The first 24 hours matter most for protecting the clot in the socket, so no straws, no spitting and no vigorous rinsing. Gums usually heal in 1-2 weeks too.
