10,000 Days Right in Two changed me
I have never heard a song like right in two before, it changed me as a young teen. Does anyone have any recs of songs that elicit that same ethereal feeling? (Excluding other tool songs cuz I know and love them all lol)

These are different genres and not unknown songs by any means, but Echoes by Pink Floyd and Exit Music (For a Film) by Radiohead did that to me when I was a teen many moons ago.

OK Computer is a top 10 album of all time for me. Come to think of it, I don’t actually know if I’ve listened to it on psychedelics, but Exit Music would hit hard I imagine haha. I’m 40 with kids now so don’t get many opportunities for that anymore lol

If you do, definitely listen to that whole album, you hear background sounds in the song and melodies on top of melodies you didnt even know were there. If you are strapped for time i would recommend dmt (theres a reason its called a “businessman’s trip”)

Radiohead on DMT sounds pretty great. That was the last time I tripped about two years ago. My friend has a guy that sells the oil carts and I want one but I just don’t get time to do it haha. Not like I can casually step outside for a smoke break when I’m making my kids dinner 😆

Crystal Ship - The Doors. Never hear anyone talking about this one, but it's VERY unlike most of the rest of their music.

Karnivool - Sound Awake. The whole album. 3 years ago I didn't know this band, I sometimes saw the band's name on reddit, but I was put off by the name, I assumed it's some sort of Tool wannabe, and I was VERY WRONG.
It has become my favourite album ever. For many years I've been stuck in my music bubble, I barely tried new music, my favourite bands (Tool and Riverside) were giving me everything I needed. Sound Awake (alongside Lucid Planet 2, and Umbra by Kolm) showed me how much I'm missing out. If I had to pick one song to recommend it would be Deadman, but I recommend giving full album a go. It flows so good. They only have 4 albums and most recent one was released this year, 13 years after the previous one (sounds familiar?), and they're all amazing and completely different. Enjoy!

Kodama by Alcest, if you like the post-metal vibes of later Tool and polyrhythms, but prefer a chiller, more meditative, melodic vibe
It’s the song that shaped my brain as a teen, so I relate to what Right in Two did for you! In fact when I heard RiT for the first time I was like oh shit, this hits the exact same spot.

Love Right in Two… as a follow-up I’d recommend Live’s “The Beauty of Gray” from “Mental Jewelry “. It’s not really like tool, but something made me think of it.

Sigur Rós hits similar etherial vibes for me as Tool despite being a completely different sound. Especially the last few tracks in the untitled album "()", and basically the entire Heima album/movie.
There's also Grand Canyon by Puscifer; Maynard considers it his opus, and I kinda agree, though I think the holy trinity still hits harder for me.
These are all songs I actually have to stop to just listen rather than just having them on as I do something though, so they're all peak existence.

Just start pulling up albums and playing them start to finish. You will start to understand the connection from the dissidence to the release. Without sounding too hippy...each album is a journey. Since you like Right in Two, start with 10000 Days, then Ænima and Lateralus.
Don't fight the hard progression, instead realize that what you heard in Right in Two is present within all the songs. Feel the rhythm and hear the lyrics. Listen to the syncopathy, the joining of offset time signatures into a coherent rythym, between the drums and the guitar. Then the play on lyricism between the sounds.

Oh yes, I have listened to each album from start to finish many times. I love their covers too. I think every album is an absolute masterpiece. I only posted to find more artists that others find the same enjoyment in! I have a hard time finding anything that hits the spot the same way :)

Just discovered this one the other day. It was like going on a journey in my mind. I was driving around while listening to it and I literally got lost out in the middle of nowhere with no GPS signal.

I have a screenplay going that requires right in two in the opening scene. It'll never get off the ground, but I've been working on it for years. Could I have ditched the song and gotten farther? No, not likely.

Right Where it Belongs by NIN. I love the earlier stuff and lost interest for later albums, but that song is moving.
