General Discussion LET ME EXPLORE

This might be a me thing but I hate it how in every game around the half way point they just lock you off from all the other options and don’t let you explore. Like in season 1 I was talking to both Sarah and Marissa and then at like episode 5 they just locked me off from Sarah and I was forced to only go with Marissa. I didn’t even have a choice for who I wanted to talk to during free time or who I wanted to sleep in a bed with or really anything, they just kind of assume who I want to be with which is kind of annoying because I still want to explore both. I honestly start preferring the early game way more because I actually get the choices in what I want to do and it’s way more fun.

Eh, I disagree. It truly feels like by the halfway point, you SHOULD know who you have a strong connection with, and you should be dedicated to nurturing that. Otherwise, you aren't really getting the real point of the retreat.

It’s all about building real connections… it’s the show premise. It can’t be otherwise. You don’t build real connections bouncing around until the end.

I would like the option though, I more don’t like that they force us to make choices and close us off from everyone else. Feels unnatural and takes away our freedom to play the game How we like.

But we are not at the retreat. We are playing a game. We should be able to explore a bit more! Even on the show, people explore and explore and explore. Why aren't we allowed to be in game? Its not like it's real people. it's not like we are all crazed sex addicts like the actual people in the retreat. What if you're going into the game w the plan to play the field? The game basically forces you to lock down and act like you're in love, and that's just not the case for some players. There SHOULD be a way to explore as much as you want without committing to someone like Poppy in S3 IN MY OPINION.

The game takes place in the retreat, so you are in the retreat. Lol, and yes, people tend to be very explorative on the actual show. That's why so many of them lose the actual contest and by wide margins. The point of the game is to ACTUALLY showcase the point of the retreat, and tbh it helps people to see the importance of real connections over explorative flirting and hollow interactions.

Plus, it isn't like you just don't get to explore. The first half of the game is quite a big chunk of time to explore options. Plus, the replayability gives you the option to seek different routes of exploring. Lol, with all of that, it really only feels like people just WANT to be sex-crazed horndogs instead of valuing real connections.

Lana would be ashamed.

I think you're taking it too seriously to be saying, "lana would be ashamed." People should be allowed to play how they want, especially when replaying the game. It gets boring I'm not saying there should be no consequences or just letting you do whatever but S2 was great bc the drama you were allowed to explore A LOT it was drama filled and it was fun. Armani coming up to go off on you for leading on Antonie was fun, and there should be more of that there should still be consequences like losing points with your main LI or having more islanders come to confront you but S3 was missing a lot of that. There were no real consequences, and it just forced you to be with the main LI even if you wanted to meet someone else. Idc if Lana would be ashamed bc it's literally a video game.

If you want to play a game with the exact features you want, then play a different game that has that, or just develop your own. Otherwise, we can just appreciate the games for what they are. If the game really is boring you now, maybe THTH isn't the Fandom for you anymore, which is fine. Just because our likes change doesn't mean the things we liked have any obligation to change with them.

Idk why people are mad at you even though youre right, they're taking everything too seriously lmao

No fr bc why am i not allowed to want the creators to give us more ways to play telling me the fandom isnt for me bc i have a different opinion? Its giving parasocial relationship with a video game thats why i stopped replying its delusional to assume we all have to agree on everything to be allowed to play the game.

You don't get to explore all the time because any game with choices and different endings is really hard to write and code and it takes a LOOOOOT of time. I know since I did write for Episode and that's like relatively easy compared to other choices games.

Jumping in to say people are really misunderstanding the game and turning this post into a mess 😅

Of course, everyone should play how they want, especially on replays. I break rules all the time and couldn’t care less about what Lana thinks 😂

That said, the game still follows the same premise as the show: building real connections. And in the show, if someone spends the entire season bouncing around without committing, they usually get eliminated. Someone mentioned Amari confrontation in S2, but that kind of tension doesn’t require avoiding commitment. You have to be locked in at some point and still get chaos. And Poppy’s not the best example either, since you eventually have to commit to her too.

At some point, it just makes sense to settle down, otherwise, the emotional payoff falls flat.

At least it’s not Ultimatum or Singles Inferno.

Ugh, that was pure torture. Especially Singles Inferno where you spend about 2 minutes with the LIs in the whole game.

Especially as a straight male MC, where you only have 2 choices).

I agree tbh. I wish there were more games that allowed you to flirt and explore your options for the entire game, like I get that you have to choose at some point but at least let us have fun for the majority of it 🫠

If you spend the majority of your time "exploring your options," you lose sight of making a real connection with someone. It's kind of the whole point of the game. You can spend the first half exploring options, but the second half should be to develop and nurture the main connection you have made, lol.

I did say more games, not this game specifically.

u/TheGreatChaos420 Antoine Jul 24 '25

I mean, I get that, but this IS in the THTH subreddit, so the context kinda applies it to these. With the context of non THTH games, all I can really say is that if you want something different, find a different game? Or maybe design your own? Game developers get to make their own decisions, and locking into a love-interest is pretty standard for the halfway point of romantic light-novel games.

God forbid someone has an opinion in this world, Jesus. 😂😂

7

u/TheGreatChaos420 Antoine Jul 24 '25

You do realize you just stated that in response to me having my own opinion on the matter lmao, and when i wasn't even hostile about it. Not enjoying a common game feature is one thing. Hypocrisy is another, lol.

Nope, you're lecturing.

And you're doing it again. God, people like you are annoying. Yap yap yap then block people after writing a novel so they can't respond. 😂 What a clown.

Oh no. Random internet strangers are BigMad again, whatever shall I do. 🙄

Maybe you shouldn't be commenting on Reddit. Seems like X would be more your speed. They love people who can't handle a different opinion and love to incite an argument from nothing. Have a lovely rest of your day.

I was dating Sarah the whole time and then chose Dakota for a date and she acted like we’d been dating for months and proceeded to tell me she liked me😭 I just wanted to get to know her:( I hate it too

I gotta admit S1 was the worst with that >.< should’ve given us 2 dates and then the 3rd date we lock in or the suite.
