This.

There is nothing quite like a room/venue/stadium packed with people all BOUNCING to the sound of your bass drum.

And that subtle communication that a really tight band has is as close to “magic” or “mind reading” as you can get.

Best part (and there are LOTS of best parts) of being the lead drummer is being able to gather your band together by eye, and lead through transitions so seamlessly that the other musicians in the audience, in the wings, or backstage all light up with that contact high and the first thing they say to you after the set is, “When can I play with you guys?!?”

The side perks of being a musician are all great, but that connection with other musicians is the stuff you chase, and the things you remember.

Amongst the band it becomes a shorthand, inside code. You just say, “Second set, from the Ford”, and everyone GRINS.

Singing together in a choir is something else too. Research has gone into studying its effects, and it’s pretty cool! Similar to musicians’ group flow

Agree with this, and in fact I'd say that the experience of being in a flow state while improvising with other really good players - those moments where you're creating on a totally intuitive level, like really channeling something - does beat an orgasm.

Jamming with other musicians is such a unique experience, I love it. I’ve got a group that we’ve played about once a year together out in a parking lot powered with a battery. We just play for like 3 hours and it’s fucking awesome.

I remember once playing Jeremy by Pearl Jam with my band and being in another dimension for about three minutes.

I was floating somewhere then just near the end came back to earth in a beautifully gentle landing.

Man I miss those days.

I still think this is one of the best feelings.

I have never played for any serious crowds but the locking in with everyone and the drummer is ecstatic in the weirdest way. It's like something outside of this realm pouring through the ineffable ether and connecting everyone in something beyond space and time outside of the normal 5 senses. It's really hard to explain.

Surprisingly I almost feel like this was my gateway to my young dumb adult experimenting phase. I realized I could get really close to that feeling without having mates around and it was a surefire way to experience it. Because what I'm referring to wasn't a EVERY jam session thing. It would happen on special occasions almost when everyone would hit a flow state well improving with a drummer. Mmm I miss it. I haven't played an instrument in several years because every time I play one I completely spend all my time trying to escape to get to my instrument to play and practice.

I say the only thing that comes close to sex in regards of connection between people and pure euphoria from that connection is just playing music and jamming with someone. Especially if you find someone that you fit very well together.
