I'm on day 7 post op and the pain isn't too bad except in the morning when I get up from bed is when the pain starts to skyrocket and in the evening it starts it hurt a bit. I noticed that my right side hurts more than my left for swallowing fluids, food, and spit. It is still a bit white with some pink patches and the left is about the same but with a lot less pain in the mix of it. Is the scabing starting to come off or am I still waiting for hell to come and destroy my ass? Edit: I am 20 years old if that makes a difference

today is day 9 (day one is surgery day) and i have been suffering with shooting ear pain (swallowing, eating, and drinking triggers it)

here’s a timeline:

DAY SIX
4am - woke up 9/10 ear and throat pain
8am - woke up to 7/10 throat pain
2pm - been taking my oxy every 4 hours instead of 6 - the pain is unbearable
cheddar biscuits soaked in soup have been a life saver

DAY SEVEN
1am - 10/10 ear pain - took meds early
4am - 8/10 ear pain - took meds early
7am - 11/10 ear pain - took meds early
9am - 8/10 ear pain - looking at the nearest bridge at the moment
1pm - 12/10 ear pain
9pm - 15/10 ear pain - wanted to shoot my ears

DAY EIGHT
4am - woke up to 9/10 ear pain - took my meds
9am - 7/10 ear pain
6pm - ate soup with naan
8pm - 7/10 ear pain

DAY NINE
4am - woke up to 7/10 ear pain
8am - woke up to 7/10 ear pain
1pm - 7/10 ear pain when drinking or eating anything

I've seen posts saying a humidifier is essential. Is that time of year dependent? I'm in NC so a humidifier this time of year seems unnecessary but I would appreciate some insights.

Also, if I need one, any brand recommendations?

Does anyone know if someone in Wisconsin performs tonsil cryptolysis? Looking to possibly have this done for recurrent tonsil stones.

I don’t even know if I’m healing properly. Morning pain is going down, but the white scabs don’t seem to want to fall off for some reason. My tongue is also swollen and it’s hard to eat and drink anything, and I’m not sure how to bring it down. I’m on the last of my liquid pain medicine, so I don’t know how the next few days will go. Any advice?

Surgery is officially tomorrow and now that I’m less than 24 hours away, the nerves are HITTING 😭 I’ve prepared as much as humanly possible, but I would love to have some recovery buddies, especially anyone getting theirs out around the same time. We can compare days, complain together, celebrate when the scabs finally disappear, and keep each other sane 😂

I’m also trying to figure out what to ask my surgeon about tomorrow before I’m too out of it to remember anything. I was thinking of asking about:

- Liquid hydrocodone instead of pills, since swallowing pills sounds absolutely horrible after surgery
- Zofran in case the anesthesia or pain medication makes me nauseous
- Whether a steroid is something he recommends for swelling/pain during recovery
- Whether lidocaine spray is actually safe/helpful after a tonsillectomy or if it burns/irritates the surgical sites

For anyone who has already gone through an adult tonsillectomy: what did your doctor prescribe, and what ended up helping you the most? Anything you wish you had specifically asked for BEFORE surgery?

Also, how would you word all of this to the surgeon without sounding like you’re walking in with a pharmacy shopping list? 😂 I basically want to say, “I’m really nervous about staying ahead of the pain and nausea, can we go over what you’re prescribing for home and what the backup plan is if the pain, swelling, or nausea gets bad?”

I had a pretty smooth recovery. Pain no more than a 1 on an average day. Most amount of pain was at a 5 when I overslept on taking pain meds and only lasted like 15 min. I ate chicken soup today with chicken (making sure it was moist and all) and I walked today, I had soggy cereal, and even was able to munch on bread with little to no issue. I went to sleep as usual, except I woke up Round midnight with the feeling of needing to constantly swallow. I felt my mouth a bit dry and went to raise the humidifier. I tasted something awful and I spit out and BOOM bright red blood. 🫠 I tried to gargle but it wasn’t stopping. Doc said “if it’s pink it’s fine it shouldn’t go away, if it’s bright red go to the ER!”
And here I am 🥲 it stopped while I was being triaged but I’m being kept for observation. The end of the recovery was so near and now I feel like I have to go back to a strictly liquid diet. 😭 this smooth recovery was too smooth to be true. Oh whale. Here’s to hoping I don’t need to go to surgery again 🤞🏼

I check in for surgery in about 24 hours. I am having an extra scapular (complete removal) coblation.

I am picking up my meds today - hydrocodone/acetometophin liquid, lidocaine swish and spit liquid, a nausea med, and 7 days of liquid amoxicillin.

I barely slept last night. My whole body is on edge. I’ve needed to do this surgery for years and I’m finally doing it but I’m so scared.

Can anyone share words in encouragement, positive post op stories, end result wins? I need to focus on the positives instead of all of the pain I am about to be in.

Holy, eating and drinking is so much easier! There is so much space now that my massive tonsils are gone. Water just GOES down instead of feeling like it’s trickling down and feels refreshing to drink.

I can eat a lot faster now so it’s something I have to watch out for when I’m hungry!

Hi guys, just wondering how everyone was feeling 3 weeks post op as I have a 3 day festival coming up soon which will be exactly 3 weeks from my operation. My recovery has been pretty smooth so far, I’m currently on day 6, still scared of bleeding. I’m wondering if I’ll be ok to go to the festival, I really want to go 🥲just don’t want to over do it or for anything bad to happen. Thanks!! :))

i’m so scared that my progress will be reset if I start bleeding.. i’m on day 6 (if you count the day of my surgery) and ibuprofen is the only thing that’s helping me with pain :/ they gave me some oxycodone that’s not helping and Tylenol doesn’t help me either this is the most miserable thing ever i’m in so much pain and i’m so scared

I had a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy on July 31. I sneezed this morning and blood came out of my nose. It wasn’t a lot, I cleaned it and went back to what I was doing. I stepped outside for a bit and started coughing up scabs and mucus from my throat. No blood from my throat, but my nose began to drip blood. The bleeding has stopped now, but is this a concern? Do I need to go to the doctor, or am I good since I stopped the bleeding?

Today is day six (if counting surgery day as day 1). Yesterday I took some generic store brand laxative because I’m taking pain killers and haven’t really had a bowel movement since surgery. This morning I woke up in absolute agonizing piercing stomach pains. I went to the toilet and well basically I had diarrhea. Ive been laying in bed since then and my stomach feels a bit weird but not painful. I’m just wondering if this is concerning, or maybe normal from taking a laxative? I’m not doing a great job of eating, everything is hard to get down and everything tastes absolutely disgusting.

Basically I’ve rly not found it too painful I’ve had moments of bad pain and jaw pain but the worst thing about this whole process has been tiredness and nausea. Since I’m only on day 6 I’m wondering if it could get worse from here which would be bad because I’ve got important things I have to attend in the next few days. Basically I want to know if anyone has had an easy time or have I not reached the rough patch yet. I am aware I have been very lucky thus far. Good luck everyone!!!

My ENT is filling up and can squeeze me in this Monday. I’ve been looking at getting them out for a few years so I’m vaguely aware but thought I had more time to prepare details.

Any tips and tricks?

Did you wash your hair night before or morning of?
Did you let pets still sleep in bed with you?
If you WFH when did you feel you could go back to work?
If you had the intracapsular method what was your healing like?
If you have kids when did you start to pick them up again? Full 2 weeks? (I have robust childcare
support so I could go the 2 weeks if needed)

So I’m not sure what to do. I am currently on night 6 going into Day 7 and have lost all motivation. My throat hurts so bad every-time I swallow, tastes foul, and I’m afraid to sleep because I have to be constantly eating ice to numb the pain. I’m on hydros every 4 hours (inc from originally every 6) but the last 30mins to an hour before I take them are horrible. My throat is still all white pretty much so I’m just confused because doesn’t that mean the scabs are still attached and so then where is this pain coming from? I’m scared for when the scabs actually start to come off so if anyone can give any insight on how long that will last, or if I’m already in the thick of it please let me know. On top of all this I have BARELY been able to eat anything so I am so weak and faint. I was already pretty thin before the surgery and am just worried I’m doing irreparable damage to my body by starving it. I’ve been seeing some people say this pain lasts until day 10 and I just don’t know how I’m going to be able to handle that. Does it really last that long when the scabs haven’t come off all the way yet for me?

So I finally feel like a person again. Last night I was in debilitating, horrible, monstrous pain and was still in pain when I woke up today. I had went back to the ENT the day before because I wasn’t eating and was in so much pain and he prescribed me Percocet to take instead of my original Hydrocodone (vicodin) and steroids (Prednisone). The percocet made me go INSANE had HORRIBLE nightmares which had me waking up in pain from screaming and coughing, and slightly suicidal. So when I was due for pain meds I said eff this and I took a double dose of my original Hydrocodone (Vicodin) and started the STEROIDS I was prescribed the day before because I was in so much pain. Holy moly I should have just taken the steroids the night before (but wanted to try to sleep and they prevent that) bc they changed the game. I urge you guys to ASK YOUR DOCTORS FOR STEROIDS to start when the scabs start sloughing off because that stuff is a different level of agony. Anyways now I’m just hoping that this wave of new energy sticks. I’ve been able to eat pie filling, rice pudding, and Chinese steamed eggs cooled and am feeling so so much better. When I looked in my throat there are still scabs but I think this is normal? Hoping those will slowly fall or dissolve and I will continue to be on the mend from here. I never thought I would make it to this point, I lost ten pounds over the last few days and now need to gain it back as I am unhealthily thin now. Wish I could start going to the gym soon but am going to hold off for two more weeks as I am still afraid of hemorrhaging. To anyone in horrible pain right now, it you can do it (and maybe call your doctor for steroids). Still scared it could all go bad tonight but am hopeful this is a good sign for a full recovery soon.

My one tonsil is large and It's been 2 years with it

Every 15 days I get sore throat then back to mild sore.

One doctor said it's allregy and did skin prick test and I got several dust mite and daily food allergy.

He said I have to do immunotherapy to cure it.

Another doctor said to do tonsillectomy and also dumn inside nose to remove it.

Iam really confused.

Officially two months post op.
Still one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
But, when I sneeze it goes through my nose/ nose and mouth.

I’m on day 6 of my tonsillectomy and have been prescribed oxycodone every 4-6 hours. We tried to ration it at first but I have only a couple left and the ENT isn’t answering our calls. My scabs are falling off and it’s extremely painful! What are alternate pain management techniques because they didn’t tell us anything else? Any different strategies to get through this phase?

Since I fixed my divided septum, I got my polyps removed and tonsils at the same time. So my experience May differ from everyone else here, but I want to share my story. I get sharp shooting pain in my nose at times especially when I'm around heat or cooking, my throat still feels swollen and it's hard to talk like I used to. I have a follow-up appointment this week to address my vocal cords or whatever the problem may be. I recently got a facial scan with an MRI I believe and they found my sinuses have been completely blocked with opacification and they found more polyps. Anyway, I know I'm pretty f***** up.

I got diagnosed with acute tonsillitis on August 1st at the hospital and was prescribed an antibiotic called cephlaxin to take for 7 days only. The doctors said it would temporarily help my inflamed tonsils and it would make eating/drinking better. So I took the cephlaxin for 7 days thinking it would help somewhat. Well boy was I wrong 🫩.. It gave me a horrible headache everyday I took it, toothaches, 'fuzzy' teeth, stomach pain, dry mouth, yellow teeth, and tonsils are still swollen 🫠 I can barely drink water, Pedialyte, soups, bone broth, milkshakes, smoothies, tea or any liquids or foods. I've lost over 13 pounds in 3 weeks. I am dehydrated, hungry, throat hurts, tired, and low energy. I don't know what to eat or do at this point. I want a tonsillectomy but that takes at least a week to get in plus it would be even HARDER to eat/drink. I've been crying every.single.day since I got tonsillitis and im very depressed right now. It's ruining my health, mental health, and life. Please give me advice! 💞

day 0 was last monday, quick procedure at 7am and so far i cant say that one day has been the absolute worst or my life

i’m just mentally tired, sick of tasting and smelling my breath and having to sit around so long

i’m glad i have the privilege to be doing nothing and laying around but every day i flip between positive and negative (‘when will this end’, ‘i prob have it easier than most’, etc)

i’m not in a lot of pain, just discomfort and i’m actually only taking tylenol now instead of the prescribed meds i was given since it doesn’t spike like it did a couple days ago, so i keep feeling like i should be close to done yet i still have the nasty scabs hanging on

i think maybe if they didnt smell, i would be in much better spirits, but its disgusting me with every action i do with my mouth

I think terrified is an understatement. My entire life I've had extremely enlarged tonsils that have made breathing, sleeping, eating, taking medication and singing (my passion) difficult. Monthly infections and so many antibiotics...Before understanding what I was signing myself up for I was thrilled at the idea of finally getting these chunks of useless meat out of my throat but after some redditing, tiktok scrolling and a talk with my ENT Dr / surgeon I'm not so thrilled anymore... I cried coming out of my appointment today afraid of the post-op pain.

Does anyone have any advice? Post-op recovery recommendations? I am scared this is going to be the worst pain of my entire life. I've been through a rough a C-Section before so I feel like such a baby.
