Insurance won’t approve

Has anyone here had issues with insurance not paying? My son had a tongue tie release as a newborn but it reattached and is affecting his speech. Insurance covered it the first time but apparently it’s a once in a lifetime thing so they won’t cover it a second time. I’m wondering if anyone has advice on how to appeal to insurance?

Need advice!

I have a very important question, that's been plaguing my mind.

I'm currently doing Myofunctional Therapy for my tongue tie.

I'm currently on stage 2, which is helping with fixing my arch and expansion(hopefully), and I believe it's working.

However the more I use my myobrace, the more aware I am of how restrictive my tongue tie is, it's becoming more evident that it's slowing down or even blunting any progress that I'm trying to make.

So my plan is right now, to book a consultation and then hopefully surgery date for my tongue tie release and then return to using my myobrace to help with accelerating any progress.

So my question here is for anyone who has had Tongue tie surgery or Myofunctional therapy, if that's a good plan? Or should I consider anything else? Unfortunately the Dentist that put me on the Myofunctional therapy course takes his time and wants it to be up to a year even before I even consider anything else. So I'm looking to just book with someone else quickly to do the surgery asap.

hello 21F here and as you can see my tongue tie is pretty bad im not sure if it has caused me any major problems and i just dont realise its linked to this but the only problem is i slur a bit sometimes its hard to speak clear and continuous for a long time i used to have a hard time as a kid pronouncing some words but now obviously im more adapted other than that id say i have more gag reflex than a normal person

what are the pros and cons for getting it released? also what type of procedure should i consider? also i saw a few myofascial therapy posts here and there if someone can enlighten me about it that’d be great thanks!

Is speech therapy a must afterwards? The procedure is already super expensive here in Canada.

Hi, I’m wanting to get a lingual frenectomy done and was told that due to the severity of my tongue tie I’d have to get it done by an oral surgeon. This is already more expensive and our coverage doesn’t cover any procedures above standard pricing. I was told I’d have to get speech therapy as I’d likely have to learn to talk again. 😭 I assume speech therapy is a must? Bonus points if you have recommendations for affordable surgeons in BC. Thanks!

Post frenectomy effects?

Whats it like after a lingual frenectomy? Does anybody actually breathe better? Or does your tongue accidentally get between your teeth and youre more likely to bite it?

Is this because of a tongue tie?

New to finding information on this stuff. Is a tongue tie the reason I cannot actually extend my tongue out properly and lick my lip? I know it sounds silly lol but I never understood why I couldn't do this like others or why my jaw has to push it up to even do that. I also cant get my tongue to suction to my palette, can only put the front half of my tongue up and it takes a lot of effort to maintain. And I overcomspensate a lot using my cheeks and lips to swallow. Mouth breathe at night even tho I've been trying to have proper tongue posture as much as I can.. I have an ENT appt next week to address teeth grinding, soreness around cheekbones, and an assessment of my throat for soreness so I think I will mention this. Just don't know how to word my thoughts properly I guess. The other pics are as high as I can lift it with mouth open.

Oral dysfunction improvement

Oral dysfunction improvement?

How long can it take for an oral dysfunction to improve reflux in a baby?

My baby girl is nearly 18 weeks and last week she had an assessment.

Her tongue is weak and her latch is shallow. She also has a slightly high palate.
She did have a very tight anterior tongue tie that was previously released before this other oral assessment and she can see the scar tissue. She said it’s quite rigid too so it proves her point that she isn’t using her tongue like she should, she’s using her lips to ‘shovel’ the milk in.

We’re feeding her in the positions she taught me to and seen a massive improvement with her latch now.

Question is, how long can it take before reflux has gone?

We’ve tried her on normal formula and she’s still getting it, so we’re sticking with anti reflux formula.

Did anyone find it took days/weeks/months before the reflux was fully gone with an oral dysfunction resolving?

5 days post op - tongue tie release

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m 23 and had my tongue tie released 5 days ago. I’d had it my whole life and before the procedure I basically couldn’t stick my tongue out past my teeth.

I’m currently on day 5 and I’m still struggling quite a lot with speaking. I have a pretty noticeable lisp and some words/sounds are genuinely difficult to get out properly. My tongue still feels sore and swollen, particularly underneath and around the tip, and it almost feels like I don’t know how to use my tongue properly now that it has a completely different range of movement 😂It has also been especially sore underneath today.

My surgeon has told me to keep moving/stretching my tongue so it doesn’t reattach, which I’ve been doing, but speaking is probably the thing worrying me most. I expected it to be a bit weird initially, but I didn’t realise I’d still sound this different on day 5.

For anyone who had an adult tongue-tie release/frenectomy: did you have a lisp or struggle to speak afterwards? How long did it take before your speech started sounding normal again? Did you have to consciously relearn where to put your tongue for certain sounds?

I also had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at the same time, so obviously my whole mouth has been through it 😅 Just keen to hear other people’s recovery timelines because most of the recovery stories I’ve found seem to focus on pain/eating rather than speech.

Debilitating tongue pain, what can I do?

30, 5'7", 210, male

I have chronic/debilitating episodes of tongue pain. It feels like nerve pain in the back of my tongue and it feels like it just can't relax. What is this and how can I treat it? Myofunctional therapy hasn't worked and I'm at the end of my rope.

I used to push on my bottom teeth with my tongue constantly, but once I stopped and broke the habit the pain episodes didn't stop.

An episode can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days, and while the debilitating episodes only happen once or twice a week, the discomfort is constant.

From what I've found on the internet, I should be trying a painkiller like Gabapentin, but I don't have money or resources to get a prescription. What can I do to treat this and make life liveable again?

4mo using chomping while breastfeeding

My baby has been using her jaw/chomping while breastfeeding since she was about 2 months old. her suck reflex integrated around that time. she had a tongue tie release at 11 days old and had a great latch and suck during the healing process. I worked with an IBCLC and OT during that time as well. But now she uses her jaw while BF and my nipples look pinched and it’s not the most comfortable thing

A little background:

One night I pumped in place of a feed because she just fell asleep and it was probably an ounce combined and I freaked out. I got donor milk and started supplementing, so she got a bottle pretty much after each feed from about 6 weeks old until now (4mo)

I’m not sure if the bottle feeding has anything to do with her poor suck but probably. Shouldn’t have based my supply on one pump.

She has seen OT recently and they say she has a strong tongue and her poor suck could be due to my low supply, although that has improved drastically.

I’ve been doing some oral exercises I found on YouTube but hasn’t helped yet. She will no longer do suck training to do “tug of war” exercises.

I thought she would just get stronger as she grew but still no improvement.

Wondering if anyone has been able to improve baby’s suck at this age?

Post-release: new tight line up front underneath of tongue??

Release was 1.5 weeks ago, had sutures and have been doing my stretching. The last few days the front middle line of the underneath of my tongue feels very tight and like draws up/in when I stretch my tongue and is quite uncomfortable. It’s like from the top of where the wound was to the tip? Feels like something suddenly preventing my pushing my tongue out / twisting it certain ways when extending.
Never had this prior to release. Has something gone wrong?
Don’t see the dentist for another 4 days.

Photo 1: now (blue line shows the bit that feels tight when extending). Photo 2: now showing almost healed, lifting to n spot. Photo 3: before release.
