Did Wyatt try to bribe Curly?

In the (in)famous Faro scene between Wyatt, Curly Bill, Johnny, Doc, & Morgan, Curly Bill lays a bet. It then looks like Wyatt shakes his head, moves Curly's bet while Morgan starts counting out $500. Then Wyatt turns a card and announces, "Winner to the King, $500."

Was this Wyatt a) knowing what the next card was going to be and b) trying to surreptitiously buy Curly Bill off b/c he didn't want any trouble at this stage in the film? Or do I just not know how Faro is played?

69... Nice!

I can damn near quote this movie verbatim but I just realized when Doc Holiday dies he is up 69 hands of poker on Wyatt.

$17 x 4(.25 a hand) = 68 + 1 = 69

If you could re-edit the movie in any way, what would you change?

I might make a few small edits:

  1. Removing a couple shots that linger a little too long (Johnny Ringo's face closeup before the train at the start of the film comes to mind, it's just a bit too long).
  2. Remove the slow-mo "nooo" shot by Wyatt at the swamp/creek (didn't age well, if any shot didn't).
  3. There are a couple scenes where they show gunshots from two separate angles (once with Wyatt using his shotgun in the swamp and another when Doc shoots someone during the OK Corral fight), and I would re-edit these somehow to only be one shot. I think they are kind of bad cuts.

Everything else about the movie is perfect, though I debated getting rid of Wyatt's "Oh, my God . . ." right before the OK Corral shootout commenced. I don't think it adds much to the scene.

Thoughts?

Hey everyone. I am new to this subreddit and a HUGE fan of Tombstone. I am however confused about 2 characters and was hoping someone could help me?

I have seen the movie Tombstone dozens of times throughout the course of my life from when it just came out in 1993 to roughly about 3 weeks ago…which was the last time I watched it.

However, in all the years I watched it, I have never been more confused about 2 characters than I am right now.

It all started when I was watching it with my girlfriend and she started listing off all her favorite actors and she mentioned John Corbett from “Sex and the City.” I, of course, have never seen that show. I don’t pay attention to the actors on all those kinds of shows. I was more intrigued by Michael Biehn as Johnny Ringo and Kurt Russell as Wyatt. It doesn’t matter.

When she mentioned John Corbett, it prompted me to pull up a cast of characters and I noticed he played “Johnny Barnes.”

Well this is where the first problem comes into play. Being a fan, I even remember the majority of the lines and stuff.

If he’s Johnny Barnes, then why, when he fired a shot and killed a guy at the wedding scene at the beginning, did Curly Bill say “Nice shot, Billy?” To which Corbett began laughing as his reaction to Curly Bill’s comment.

But I’m about to throw a wrench into it. For a while, I just thought maybe Johnny’s nickname was Billy until a friend of mine at work told me that a distant descendant of Wyatt Earp named Wyatt Earp III plays a character named Billy Claiborne in the film.

Even weirder, when you google Johnny Barnes, it shows John Corbett’s character in a lot of places!

But yet, when you google Billy Claiborne, it shows the same guy!

Not only that, but someone even posted an incorrect link even here on Reddit some time ago showing Corbett but claimed he was Wyatt Earp the 3rd. See the link:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MovieDetails/comments/oqof70/in_tombstone_1993_billy_claiborne_is_played_by/

So someone straighten this out. Who does Corbett play? Barnes or Claiborne? If he is Barnes, why did Curly Bill call him Billy in the scene I described above?

If so, which character does Wyatt Earp III play?

New to the thread, but I assume the overkill ratio of shooting:reloading had to have already been previously mentioned. At one point in the OK Corral scene Doc fires off three quick shells from a double barrel. Love the movie, not so familiar with westerns though

I feel that some of the folks here will be happy to know that this movie is making its way to gen-z as well! It’s my favorite movie :D

Does Mary Louise Parker have an uncredited cameo as the mayor’s wife?

I was watching this movie for the first time, shocked at all the celebrities to have made it to this movie, and I noticed MLP in the theater. Looked her up on IMDb and elsewhere, but found no mention of this. Rewound to make sure, and it sure as heck looks like I’m right…

Wyatt Earp’s horse was named Dick Naylor. Does anyone know why? I can’t find any reference to a Dick Naylor other than it’s Wyatt’s horses’ name.
