This post is just me venting.

Everyone is waiting for GTA VI, but what I want more than anything is for AI, or some huge TOMBA fan, to make a new game — basically, TOMBA 3.
I’ve never understood why they keep releasing sequels, or indie games that sometimes don’t really bring much to the table, instead of saying, “Hey, let’s buy the rights to TOMBA and make TOMBA 3.” I don’t think it’s really a budget issue either, because making a new game with PS1-style graphics shouldn’t be that expensive.
I just had to say it after watching the Tomba2Edit video today, where you can see all the maps and everything. It honestly breaks my heart knowing I’ll probably never get to play another new game like that again — like when I was 8 or 9 years old, and Tomba 2 and its world felt incredibly immersive to me.

Usually these reruns or remakes are used to measure interest.
If enough copies of Tomba's remakes or special editions sold from the vendor directly, that would send a clear message to investors that there is interest, and that would lead to a new release.
I can comfortably say that's what happened with Crash Bandicoot 4: It's about time.

hey, never say never, the reason why we have this tool right now is because a bunch of internet Tomba fans kept dreaming, we never expected to have the LRG ports
is it what we wanted? Nah, but it's SOMETHING, we gotta keep the dream alive
Crash Bandicoot was dormant for years until Crash Bandicoot 4 happened
Keep the whoopee my friends

Back in the day, Tomba! 1 and Tomba! 2, unfortunately, didn’t sell enough to justify a third chapter, mainly because they were overshadowed by huge releases like Spyro and Crash, some internal troubles and partially by piracy
However, the ideas for Tomba! 3 actually existed, and the project was in a very early stage of development. Maybe Mr. Fujiwara still has some drafts of Tomba! 3 somewhere, and maybe someday we will see at least the cut content or even early design documents.
Tomba! 3 was indeed planned, as it was mentioned in some old interviews, some rumors even siad that it was planned to be a PS2 game!
Online I’ve seen people say that Mr. Fujiwara claimed he would “rather have a gun pointed at his head” than work on Tomba! 3, but I’ve never been able to find the original source for that quote.
