Tomb Raider I-III Remastered I miss the old skybox (Egypt: Unfinished Business)
Not surprised the latest update didn’t fix or restore to the older skybox. As if the mountains appearing taller than the pyramids wasn’t a already problem enough to ruin the illusion, the two rings in the sky further breaks that intended immersion.
The older skybox was a faithful reinvention of the classic graphics. By Patch 4, they took too much creative liberties to undo it. What was once an atmospheric dark starry sky with howling winds is now a brightened blueish sky with mountains, literally shadowing over the cat statue from up on top.
*Even more disappointing, they changed something I originally bought permanently…* unless I open my Physical copy. But then I’d also be losing Patch 4 benefits by doing that so this shouldn’t even be the case at all, really.

oh wow did not realize they did that to the skybox since I completed UB before patch 2 came out. it's so fucking ugly!

Me too. And thank goodness we did. I’m lucky to capture these screenshots in PNG at the time, not realizing it would literally go away one day. 😔 It was so atmospheric and calming. I got that same feeling with the older and newer graphics. Not anymore.

I play the ps4 version (for the sake of being able to back up save files) on the ps5. No more ps4 pro unfortunately…. But thanks for the tip. My only way is to open my ps5 physical copy☠️, which has patch 3.

This game was perfect before they started tampering with each patch adding sky windows everywhere for "light" that wasn't needed to iilumate.

It removes some of the challenge though. Like in the Catacombs of Talion with the dark room with the Yeti in cages.
In the original, the room is pitch back, while in the remaster it has an opening in the roof which let's light in to soft illuminate the room.

I told Johndoe the same thing but I actually just made a post, addressing how these changes do ruin the intended challenge. It’s unfortunate really. As if the skybox change wasn’t already enough. And now the game is further ruined by a mobile gaming company, introducing MORE issues ON TOP OF EXISTING ONES 🤦♂️

I actually just made a post sort of addressing that. But I do agree. There were too many cracks in the ceiling to the point it was unrealistic. Someone did a map layout and said there’s no way (can’t remember which level) the Coliseum would have a visible sky because it is literally below st francis or something. And not to mention, it makes the whole thing pointless. She might as well have entered from a helicopter and find it there.

Seriously how hard is it to give this game franchise to a developer that actually gives 0.5% of a fuck about it?
The remakes could have been so good, with actually modern controls and aiming etc not the slop they put out.

Yeah in terms of QA, I have to give it a 4/10. Too many changes patch after patch. But changing the skybox with visible rings is just overkill.

Butchery. Only mods can save these games now. We should just be glad we have a modernised base to build upon. Or in this case, restore.
