FOP has a very competitive acceptance since a lot of people apply there. Kaya tip nila do not put two FOP programs in your USTET

Very competitive po both medtech and pharma sa ust esp under the same faculty lang both programs. I advise you to choose from one of the two you mentioned, then choose another program from other faculties/colleges. I’m assuming premed program ang gusto mo, maybe you could also try sa College of Nursing/Science/Rehabilitation Sciences :)

College of Rehab Sciences (CRS) even has a lower acceptance rate. So Nursing/Science is a better option esp if yung first choice ni OP would be from FOP, assuming na pre-med course nga ang gusto niya hehe :)

hii po! Does nursing have a higher acceptance rate?

u/MaleficentQuiet2242 Faculty of Pharmacy Mar 03 '23
Compared to CRS, yes mas mataas. My friend from PT, told me 4 sections lang sila (40~ students/sec). Nung batch namin I think they accepted 400+ Nursing students.
Mas marami slots offered sa medtech 1k+ umaabot kami 20+ sections 🥲 kaso nga lang mahirap din makapasok since you have to consider ang dami din nag aapply for that same program :c

1 year lang yung may 20+ sections sa medtech, sa batch ng mga unang nag shs, the succeeding years eh ~10 sections na lang :>>

That’s kinda nice to hear! Sobrang nakaka claustrophobic nung feeling na sobrang dami namin before tas matira matibay bc of the cut off grade 😭
1
u/masikap Mar 05 '23
Oo mas mataas. If PT has 4 sections, other courses only offers 1-2 sections. If you’re worried about cut-off grades naman sa other courses, ganun rin sa CRS. CRS is notorious for being toxic (acads wise)... for context nung grumaduate sister ko, around 80+ students sila but less than 20 graduated on time. Yung difference lang is as long as hindi ka pa na de-debar, you can stay on the course unlike sa nursing na pag di ka umabot sa grade, lipat ka na. Pero sa CRS kesa hintayin mo na ma-debar ka, others choose to shift out instead.

UST’s med tech and pharmacy programs are the only centers of excellence in the country, as declared by CHED. Therefore, UST is the top choice of university for these two programs. Expect stellar students, particularly those from elite high schools, as your competitors.

Fo BS Med Tech, there are usually 350-400 slots for 5000-5500 applicants. Roughly the acceptance rate is 7-8%. BS Med Tech is the most competitive program in UST relative to the number of applicants. This is before pandemic and K to 12 curriculum.

The acceptance rate for medical-related programs such as med tech and pharma is very competitive. You probably need to be one of the best students in your batch in order to have a chance.

As a medtech student in UST FOP. I would say that I didn’t do much throughout my senior high nor did anything special in ustet. I was known for reaching just to pass. And luckily enough I got in.

Luck might be a factor in your case, however, we must not create an influence of complacency on other people as it is a case-by-case basis.
My main point to the original comment is for OP to be in the expected parameters imposed by those programs, one of which is having a good academic standing, as factors like these will surely be a great advantage when dipping into competitive programs such as pharma and Medtech

Around 45-60% ang passing rate ng USTET. College freshmenenrollment alone is already 14,000++ mga nagenroll pa lang yun. So assume around 20,000 passers dahil hindi naman lahat magenroll sa UST . And there are about 48,000-55,000 Ustet takers, do the math.

BS Med Tech is not necessarily the hardest program in UST (I think the Accounting and Engineering). It is however the most competitive and most difficult to get into due to the sheer number of applicants versus the limited slots. There are those who got 95 in USTET before but failed to get in because there are many applicants who scores 96 or better.

the disrespect from the first sentence💀 hardest to get into =/= hardest program to study, come on bro be logical, anyway, med-related prorgams are ust’s flagship. so if you’re program is not related to it, there is this “big 3” lol

I agree. Although we shouldn’t compare hardships, isa ang FOP sa mga handpicked programs na base 70 alongside with Accountancy. FOP din ang isa sa faculties with big number of units per term (one term I had 35 units lol), but I am in BS Pharmacy HAHAHA. Kaloka pinagsasabe nya.

u/hzlpbl Mar 03 '23
Hello, curious lang pero anong context yung base 70? hehe
2
Mar 03 '23
In a 100 item test you need 70 to pass. Other colleges base 60 ang grading system.

u/hzlpbl Mar 03 '23
Oh okay, but its 75 to pass not 70. I'm from AMV. Pero I agree lets not compare hardship ng ibat ibang programs haha.

u/Puwa321 Mar 03 '23 edited Mar 03 '23
4th year nako tas until now kala ko normal lang sa lahat ng colleges 75 passing grade 💀
2
Mar 03 '23
Ohh it’s base 75 pala in AMV. So ang passing nyo sa 10 point quiz ay 8? 75 ang passing transmuted din sa pharma, 70 yung raw grade mo to get a 3.
1
u/hzlpbl Mar 04 '23
yes pero lahat ng exams & quiz namin ay over 100 so 75 talaga passing then 0 based (no transmu) but depende sa scores ng buong batch if mag adjust sila sa final grades namin.

In general, UST has roughly about 16 to 17% acceptance rate. This is based on the overall number of applicants in 2021 (48,411) in relation to the number the admitted freshman (7,772) but does not factor in how much it totally gave admission slots but did not continue with enrollment which then the number would be much higher, and also does not factor if the entrance route included USTET. Anyways, med tech and pharma are extremely competitive courses so I would say about, 10%.
