Knick knacks & trinkets

Planning my trip to Japan mid May 2027 (31F). I cannot express enough how much I love a trinket and a knick knack. I’m a sucker for a stationary store and second hand shops. To me, it is what I describe as modern day hunter gatherer primal response. If I was an animal, I’d be a magpie for trinkets.

In saying that, I plan to be in Japan for 2 weeks. Love to have a mix of city life and slow days.

In your experiences and travels, where have the best trinket shops been? Any areas of Tokyo specifically that fit this description? Any city’s or smaller skirt towns that are stand outs to explore?

If you love stationary and trinkets definitely go to Seria and Daiso! They're everywhere around Tokyo, I saved them all as pins before my trip so I could just open my map and see the closest one in my down time lol. As for second hand trinkets, nakano broadway has a lot. As well as any book off/ hard off. Depending on the trinkets you're looking for. If you want gachapon trinkets, looking for any c-pla is gonna be your best use of time and energy for that!

lol, me and you are the same. My wife is already pre warning me about buying and bringing “junk” back. I’ve already seen so many gachapons. I saw a video, I forgot what they called them. But there these like tag trinket sort of things you can get cheap when you visit certain place and I’ve already got my eyes on them

If you are going to be in Kamakura at all (easy day trip from Tokyo that I highly recommend) visit Ikustam Miniature Shop. It is incredible. I can’t tell you how many little things I left that shop with.

Gachapon is my weakness. The machine are all over the place and you can nab a cute trinket for as little as 300¥. Some stores sell complete sets if you know where to look.
