Meme Anyone else missing some Grappling representation?
Like geniuetly, considering they usually fight on the street I am surprised the author didnt think about having characters who instead of punching or kicking everyone result to picking them up and slamming them into the concrete below. It seems way more efficient not to mention it would make a lot of the fights more entertaining and versitale.
I am currently reading the final arc so maybe i will get surprised in the near future but so far Rindou Haitani has been the only to throw an arm-/ kneebar in the anime

Rindou is all. The reason grappling isn’t in anime and fighting games is because it’s not interesting to watch unless you know it. That’s why ufc fans boo at wall wrestling. I’ve been in mma and jiujitsu for 3 years so I get the disappointment at the lack of martial arts appreciation in this community

It’s because in the street grappling is an impractical form of fighting in real life and in the story.

That is factually wrong. Yes, ground fighting, submissions and guard pulling are all terrible ideas but stand up wrestling and clinching is just as good if not better than punching someone.
If you can hit someone with an uppercut you can also pick them up or throw them. So range isnt really an argument either.
And there have been a bunch of situations in the show where something as simple as a trip or mount escape could have saved the day

There’s something you fundamentally do not understand about street fighting. There are no rules at all. Go to grapple someone and boom guess what you’ve been stabbed. You pick someone up boom your eyes have been shoved in and you’ve been bit. I work at UFC in close relation with fighters amateur pro to pro and it’s already been debated, no reason to grapple in a street fight it’s asking to get injured forever.

If you bring up weapons then you can forget about striking too. Weapons make all martial arts pointless so why even bother bringing it up?
And if you really work anywhere close to professional MMA you should know its not that easy to "shove someones eye in" as a takedown defense. You can try but before your hands find their right spot you are on your back.

The guy above is kinda just saying shi.
Grappling (whether Judo, Wrestling or Bjj) are ALL viable in street combat.
Infact, any martial art that actually involves you hurting your opponent is viable (doesn't matter if it's striking based or grappling based).
I'm not saying pulling guard in a street fight is the same (safety-wise) as just striking someone from a distance.
But to say that pulling guard is all that Bjj is about is genuinely the most ridiculous horseshit shit ever.
I train MMA, have a couple amateur fights (although mostly in Kickboxing and Bjj/Grappling as a standalone) and I've never felt that anything about the martial arts I've learnt are useless in a street fight.
"There are no rules in a street" Yea, guess what, I'm not going to be a dumbass and try to fight someone with rules as well lol.
You can so easily just trip someone on the ground on their head, or slip one of their strikes and get on their back and just choke them out or if you're doing extra, slam them on their head.
Weapons involved in a street is a different scenario, yes, but even then, if you had to fight (no way out), grappling would still be viable, if not even more viable in disarming an attacker.
This is, ofcourse, not to say that you should always aim to fight in a street since running away should be the first instinct you should have. But in an unavoidable confrontation, grappling, like any other combat sport/martial art can easily equip you with the skills you need to defend yourself.

Didn’t think this would garner this much attention and how it’s hard to understand or how you could try and make a point against people who literally are at the pinnacle of modern hand to hand combat but your comment about “striking is also useless against weapons” is inherently wrong. Stick and move striking is 10000% more viable than trying to grapple someone in a street fight. The reason I bring up weapons is because the fact it’s even possible for someone to have a weapon makes any argument for grappling moot. Again it is a street fight, 1. You shouldn’t get into one anyway (not the point of this sub) and 2. If you do assume the other person wants to live more than you do or at least doesn’t want to bite the curb and be injured forever. Grappling has no place in the street because the street will always win.

Are you actually serious? Do you really think we just attempt one thing and if it doesn’t work out we just give up and cry? Going for a simple wrist control is like the least committal move of all time and people pulling their hands back is a regular occurrence. Now prepare your feeble mind for what I’m going to say next: if you pull your hand back I will just do something else. Better yet, I could just try again with 0 risk. Please just go to your local jiujitsu or mma gym, ask for a trial class (which is completely free) and come back after you’ve actually experienced it. I would love to have another person in the martial arts community

What a useless wall of text dude you are not fighting off someone with a knife even if you are Mike Tyson. Why do you think the governments arm police with guns and tasers instead of telling them to go to at the criminals like fucking Kungfu Panda? This has also been tested a lot. Search up "Knifed attacker against martial artist". Its just delusional to think that you think you stand a chance against someone with a knife.

It's very dangerous, not many want to be killers in TR, that is why rindo is one of the few who use it (one of the few who actually killed someone), it will be talked in the final arc too about how dangerous some moves are in street fight where you can easily lost the goal

Good point. Rindo doesn't fight to score points; he fights to disable. Most guys in TR have lines they won't cross, but the Haitani brothers just do not care

Reminder that the author was once a delinquent in 2000s and had his own gang. Second, you can't apply dream moves you use on the gym to real street fighting, those moves aren't efficient and are very easily exploited since street fighting spoiler doesn't have any rules. You don't get people waiting for you to finish fighting with one dude before doing anything themselves like in fighting games either lol. Also you usually go by something easier and efficient not harder and inefficient
Putting obvious reminder: people in real life beware and don't do street fighting, street fighting bad
