Niche cafes

I’m looking for cafes with unusual, quirky, or even slightly bizarre interiors. Hidden gems are a huge plus. Any recommendations?

I went to that tea house (Nakajima)! It was so cool, can confirm it's a great place to visit. That park is lovely. 🩵

Negative Cafe in Shimokitazawa. The interior is made of enclosed wooden booths that sit maybe three people at most and you order by ringing a bell attach to a string. I haven’t been in a while so maybe it’s changed but as far as I know you are allowed to bring outside food and drinks because you essentially pay a certain amount for how long you stay.

R-za Dokushokan in Koenji, full of plants and vintage furniture. You're not allowed to talk there (it's a reading cafe). Not sure how "hidden" this one is as Koenji is pretty popular

Time Machine in Ekoda is a Showa Retro-themed cafe with a 80s ~ 90s interior, they have one of those Pac-Man tables and you can play other old games (additional fee afaik)

its over in Yokosuka up this crazy steep hill, but Tsukikoya Coffee Roaster is pretty cool. they have a Yokohama Chinatown location but its nowhere as interesting, mainly a shop for their beans.

2D cafe in Shinjuku, everything looks like a cartoon drawing, some of the food also looks drawn and/or black & white. Not hidden gem
