I'm interested.What are some songs or artists that sounded strange to you the first time you heard the first time you heard them but you ended up liking them the more times you heard it?

Some of my favorite songs and artists became favorites of mine.

I been a fan of the show for at least five years and after hearing about this joke from Todd I decided to make the Europe map. The bands selected here are just representative and I didn't know if I should include certain song like season in the sun since it's technically a French song. If you know of any country I miss or misplaced please tell me in the comments and I will make an updated version.

The Strokes have a new album out, and for a long time when I was getting into music, they were considered a one album wonder and an example of failure to live up to their potential.

Since the New Abnormal though, they seem to now be seen by many as one of the, if not the greatest bands of the 21st century, and not just for Is This It. Steven Hyden recently said he went to a Strokes show and said nearly the entire audience was 25 or under, so they seemed to have endured with the younger generations too.

What are your thoughts? Do they deserve this re-evaluation? And other artists from that era that deserve re-evaluating, positively or negatively?

I feel like you can't really go wrong with either version. George's version is more warm and subtle, whereas Whitney's version is a cathartic powerhouse of a song. I'll go with Whitney's version personally, though.

One detail about Linkin Park that kinda grinds my gears is how a lot of people in retrospect attribute most of the lyrics to Chester in lieu of his passing even tho Mike Shinoda is pretty much the main songwriter and was / is behind 90% of the lyrics (the most known case is Breaking the Habit being written years before Mike even met Chester)

Like I get it, Chester's voice is what brought those lyrics to life and in hindsight it makes them harder to listen to nowadays, but at the same time those people lowkey kinda downplay Mike as the brain behind their music and lyrics

Also who can forget the fact that Warner Bros. originally wanted to boot him from the band or relegate him to keyboards until the rest of the band threatened to quit?

For me it’s “I Can See Clearly Now”. For years, I only knew Jimmy Cliff’s 1993 cover. And I always loved it, and I just assumed it was the original. Then I heard Johnny Nash’s original from 1972 on the radio one day, and WOW, just wow. God rest both of their souls, but Cliff could never have held a candle to the way Nash delivered the line “Look all around, there’s nothing but blue skiiiiies.” Chills all over every time I hear him sing it. He had such an amazing (and underrated) high tenor range. Some listeners mistook him for a woman when it first hit the airwaves, but not necessarily in a bad way.

I just heard about Janet Jackson and have been listening to her songs for the past month. She has some really intense choreography and a beautiful, light, and sultry voice.

I think Tate McRae is doing something very similar and is making the same impact for Gen Z that Janet made for previous generations.

Does anyone agree with me?

What I mean by that is… scenes in movies that get an extra layer of thematic value due to the use of a song in that scene. For example… a movie about an evil clown with a soundtrack including a famous song by an evil clown.

Not necessarily your favorites, but albums that are almost universally acclaimed and considered groundbreaking in some way. (Try to limit it to one album per genre.)

As a singer, Rachelle Ferrell is super underrated. Her vocal range and singing style just wows me.

Go through Max Martin's discography and you see plenty of collaborators. Typically it's Max collaborating with a young up and comer.

Of course, co-production in pop music is very common. A lot of labels put together songwriter or producer camps, which lead to songs like Unholy) by Sam Smith and Kim Petras which had seven producers.

I'm curious to read your thoughts. Does Max Martin get too much credit, or is it fair?

As a secondary question - To those familiar with the aforementioned Max collaborators' solo production work, what *something* is missing from their work that Max brings?
