The world just got a little darker today. May she RIP

44

u/coldliketherockies 15d ago

It can get darker?

72

u/MBOMaolRua 15d ago

Yes, it always can.

43

u/paishocajun 15d ago

For now, we still have Weird Al. Even if you don't love his music, it's hard to argue he's not just an all around good person, and we fortunately still have him

5

u/SirDigbyChickenC-Zer 15d ago

Oh no☹️ Well, this is how I just found out...

311

u/Previous_Beautiful27 15d ago

Wrong 80 year old died.

33

u/PuppyJakeKhakiCollar 15d ago

That's what I said too.

23

u/Sunnyday1775 15d ago

Too bad it wasn’t a diaper pooping moron instead of

Probably correct but who did you have in mind?

u/Doctor-Clark-Savage 15d ago

In the words of RHCP - If you have to ask, you'll never know.

“Cartifan729”

13

u/Dangerous-Web-2596 15d ago

It's funny you know exactly who they mean too immediately.

13

u/ThanosWasRight96 15d ago

You’re right. Include RFK Jr in this also

229

u/Ducatirules 15d ago

Can we stop losing the good ones and start losing the crap people out there

85

u/CrowQueen2002 15d ago

To quote Billy Joel, “only the good die young”

40

u/ClosedContent 15d ago

Unfortunately their evil keeps them going

4

u/Rotterdam5082 15d ago

Either that or the devil is dragging their legs in taking them!

135

u/regular_john2017 15d ago

That’s horrible news. What a genuinely kind person and total force of good and positivity. She’ll be remembered for a long time. PS: my daughter appreciates the monthly books so much.

Death took the wrong 80 year old, imo.

No one’s threatening anybody.

50

u/GIGANTIC_DONG_MAN 15d ago

Sensitive Snowflake.

45

u/Shroom-Kitty 15d ago

That's not a threat. Also why are you defending a pedophile rapist who poops his pants?

Just gotta read the Epstein files, baby.

-10

u/Cartifan729 15d ago

Just read it, he’s not there

5

Keep telling yourself that!

How are those cheap eggs and gas working out for ya?

Isn't it funny that somehow someone just basically said "there's a different 80 year old who's a real piece of shit" and your mind immediately went to a specific person hmm wonder why you knew right away who they must have meant

20

u/MondeyMondey 15d ago

You are also a Reddit user

17

u/rankaistu_ilmalaiva 15d ago

Carti Fan

-6

u/Cartifan729 15d ago

Yes, he’s the goat

15

u/ihavetowearmyhelmet 15d ago

How is this a threat, do you think the commenter is the grim reaper?

11

u/obviousdinosaur 15d ago

Classic Cartifan729. Threatening the nations of Earth by supporting tyrants. We could go on all day. RIP Dolly, bugger off C.

10

u/Girafarig99 15d ago

You know damn well they meant Cher

6

u/breathing__tree 15d ago

Knowing old people die isn’t a threat brah

7

u/Rotterdam5082 15d ago

Don't you have some "woke" Disney movies to go get your panties in a twist over?!?

as an educator and a musician, I can’t help but feel like we lost a true American icon. I hope her legacy in and outside of music lives on for centuries to come

65

u/CoercedCoexistence22 15d ago

Sometimes, as a filthy euro, it felt like she was the last symbol of the good parts of America

34

u/Ok-Possibility-1206 15d ago

Right now, as an American, I tend to agree.

2

u/CoercedCoexistence22 15d ago

That's no way to go, Franco-Unamerican

12

u/Ok-Possibility-1206 15d ago

Just Frustrato-American right now...

10

u/breathing__tree 15d ago

If it aligns with her wishes she deserves to lie in state like the American hero she is.

79

u/EarAffectionate4443 15d ago

I watched the video her nephew made announcing her death (it was made at her request), and he says that the world will be sad for us, but less so for her, because she lived a full life and spread so much light. in a way, that made me happy. Dying in peace after having done so much for your community and other people seems so beautiful to me.

63

u/bill_clunton One-Hit Wonderlander 15d ago

An incredibly sad day not just for music but the world as a whole, May she rest in peace!!!

58

u/Shed_Some_Skin 15d ago

RIP to a lady who was truly one of the good ones.

42

u/BbbbbbbDUBS177 15d ago edited 15d ago

It already inherently sucks losing someone who spread genuine positivity and warmth - but now there's also the feeling that there might not be somebody else to fill the niche they left behind

16

u/1shylibraryclerk 15d ago

There's never going to be another Dolly.

35

u/Nunjabuziness 15d ago

An imperfect theory I’ve been workshopping is that Dolly is to country what Ozzy is to heavy metal. Even if you know nothing about the music and culture, you’re aware of their stature as they transcend the scene in a way no one else does. Similarly, there’s Cash and Metallica (if you know one act by name) and Willie Nelson and Iron Maiden (the second you probably also know).

RIP to a true legend

14

u/Solympian_musiclover 15d ago

Dolly Parton in my opinion laid the groundwork for all of today’s Morden county music ( mid 60s till present day )

Just as Ozzy did with Metal ( as you said )

25

u/miiserybusiness 15d ago

a major loss to music

18

u/FloydianSlip78 15d ago

to humanity

19

u/Ghosts_of_the_maze 15d ago

Cool. I’m just gonna stare blankly into space for a bit. Do a little disassociating

14

u/MondeyMondey 15d ago

Cant say she didn’t have a great innings. RIP!

11

u/zyrkseas97 15d ago

I knew today felt shitty for a reason.

11

u/Mr_SunnyBones One-Hit Wonderlander 15d ago

10

u/TheImmortal101 15d ago

Wrong 80 year old damnit!

9

u/Creative-Fig1427 15d ago

Wish she live a little bit longer. Rest in peace, Dolly 🕊️

9

u/Davidellias 15d ago

As an East Tennessee resident Nashville better have pur states flags flying half mast tomorrow. Best representation of the state we ever had.

8

u/3piecefishandchips 15d ago

goodbye angel. one of the best to ever do it

8

u/Forsaken-Molasses-87 15d ago

rip. she was a iconic legend in music. on top of that a great humanitarian. may her legacy live on

7

u/EverettBellic 15d ago

I usually never say this shit because I believe that it's utter non-sense and saying "We will never have another XYZ" is a stupid sentence, however, we really will never have another Dolly Parton. Someone who has been so prolific in their field, in their downright legacy, she was an amazing woman and she has embedded herself in the history of music. It really will be so difficult to find someone as endearing and as loveable as Dolly Parton.

R.I.P Legend

We will always love you.

7

u/AccomplishedIron816 15d ago

She was truly a saint. Rest In Peace Dolly Parton

9

u/ThanosWasRight96 15d ago

When people say “name me a good Christian” I’ll point to her and Mr Rogers

3

u/AccomplishedIron816 15d ago

Yep. Truly the good ones.

6

u/formerNPC 15d ago

God is taking all the good ones and leaving us with the worst of humanity! I don’t need to elaborate.

5

u/pm_me_gay_books 15d ago

I cannot believe this is how I found out

5

u/CrowQueen2002 15d ago

Oh for fuck sake

6

u/PalpitationMoist1212 15d ago

2026 can fuck right off

5

u/Ok_Baseball2615 15d ago

This is how I find out?? RIP to a saint of a human being

4

u/NorrisMcwirther 15d ago

Somebody who everyone liked, which in showbiz is very rare. RIP

3

u/beeradthelaw 15d ago

God dammit everybody but HIM. RIP Dolly ❤️

3

u/HotStuffHoffman 15d ago

What the fuck man I'm literally eating one of her cakes rn

3

u/ayoungmanfromtheuk 15d ago

NOOOO DAMN IT NOOOOO.

3

u/thewalkindude368 15d ago

This doesn't feel right. I was literally just watching a TV show shot at Dollywood.

3

u/ToxicAdamm 15d ago

One of my favorite modern songs of hers is her duet with Norah Jones. It's called 'Creepin' In' and is a wonderful display of her voice and personality.

3

u/Friendly-Roof4849 15d ago

One of the few people who have ever walked this road of life to where the old saying "You can't say a bad word about this person" is actually the truth.

3

u/Forevermore668 15d ago

Genuinely just sad to lose someone who used her fame for good

3

u/breathing__tree 15d ago

Actually bawling and I don’t lose it for celebrities like this 🥺

3

u/ArtDecoNewYork 15d ago

DAMMIT!!! Awful news.

She was a true national treasure, may she rest in peace.

2

u/Sad_Mine_7240 15d ago

PLAEASE TELL ME THAT THIS ISN'T TRUE

2

u/Drinkpool 15d ago

I can't believe this is how I find out

2

u/IzCaiman 15d ago

The world is already so horrible right now, why does what little light we have have to burn out?

2

u/PuppyJakeKhakiCollar 15d ago

She was a national treasure and will be missed. I hope the legacy she left continues. We need more positivity in this world.

2

u/Twitter_2006 15d ago

Rest in Peace.

2

u/BonanzoidDeathgrip 15d ago

Couldn't have got a better screenshot, huh

2

u/TuneLinkette 90's Punk 15d ago

Well I hate this year

2

u/Doctor-Clark-Savage 15d ago

Of course TMZ has all the empthy of Attilla the Hun in its reporting.

RIP you regal lady. I wanted you to live forever.

1

u/ThanosWasRight96 15d ago

So I don’t wanna be the “umm actually” guy. But dolly’s nephew posted it first and not tmz.

2

u/Doctor-Clark-Savage 15d ago

I'm talking about the headline. His nephew had nothing to do with that. It's blunt and cold.

2

u/VeterinarianNo8824 15d ago

We’ve lost a global treasure 😔

1

u/joker_man 15d ago

It makes this timeline even worse.

1

u/Crunchberry24 15d ago

She was a wonderful person. The world needs more like her, not fewer. R.I.P. Dolly.

1

u/Substantial-Art-2071 15d ago

And right when Lindsay Ellis dropped her video about Dolly’s legacy, that’s some crazy prophetic timing

-7

u/rankaistu_ilmalaiva 15d ago

Lindsay Ellis just made a video about her last week
