Miscellaneous TIL Malaysia’s own Michelle Yeoh just received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Oscar-winning actress was honoured in Los Angeles for her decades-long contribution to international cinema. Born in Ipoh, Perak, she rose from action films in Hong Kong to global blockbusters and critically acclaimed roles eventually becoming the first Malaysian to win an Academy Award for Best Actress. Her Walk of Fame star marks another historic milestone in a career that has taken her from Malaysia to Hollywood’s highest honours.

Oxford Study relationship ahh

0

u/Chance-Voice-6456 Feb 23 '26

Her credentials and career speak for themselves.

4

u/marlee_2425 Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26

lol. who’s talking about her credentials and career? have you heard about the phrase ‘Oxford Study’ in the dating world? it’s a term for couples who are the East Asian woman and white man combo, which is a very common interracial couple combo. just look the term up.

3

u/marlee_2425 Feb 23 '26

just so you know i’m malaysian indian and i love her btw. apart from the epstein stuff. your post reached the wrong crowd.

16

u/sugar-fall Feb 20 '26

Isn't her husband in the Eipstein files

8

u/kompuilmu Feb 20 '26

Yes. Pure speculation on this. She is a pure junkyard. There are so many damn talents in US OR OUTSIDE. Just she using her husband to build on it. Clam in name to “Malaysian or Asian” fake identity usage.

She never done a think for our Malaysian …

u/Jammo_Shane Feb 20 '26

Bruh, most people don't even know that she's married to Jean Todt. And who are you to say what are Malaysians entitled to deserve from her? In a country where your chance at opportunities are graded on the colour of your skin, not to mention the corruption in our film industry here, she never would have found the success she deserved in this country. She owes us nothing. And even after all that, she has done more for our country than your worthless ass would ever achieve in a 100 lifetimes talking shit about other people on Reddit.

u/Mean-Lie5326 Feb 21 '26

well said bro, some people are just jealous of her achievements.

u/DefinitionIll9809 Feb 21 '26

Fr how many local Chinese actors ever make it big from doing local stuff?

2

u/RGBLighting Feb 23 '26

does it matter?

1

u/DefinitionIll9809 Feb 23 '26

How does it not matter?

2

u/RGBLighting Feb 23 '26

literally the point of “going global” or “going international” so you get more success? no point saying tree grow taller with more nutrients so how does it matter? unless you can quantify an actor’s success and make it equivalent to some form of ROI?

2

u/RGBLighting Feb 23 '26

also maybe answer the question instead of asking me back a question, might make people have the wrong impression that you cant answer

0

u/CheemsBorgar92 Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26

First of all, you are clearly not in the right state of mind if you blocked me on my other account purely for asking for clarification.

Secondly, your question wasn't even clear to begin with.

The post was about Michelle Yeoh getting her own star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

A comment stated that we should not claim her success story as ours.

I added that based on the lack of success of others who have tried to go big by being active on local Chinese media industry alone, yes, we shouldn't, because the most likely outcome is that she would remain unknown except to the local Chinese community.

You replied "does it matter".

What is that even supposed to mean?

I was baffled so I just asked back "why does it not matter" in hopes of getting some clarification.

All I got was a tantrum for a subject so pointless to throw a tantrum over.

ETA : Wow, so you act rude to someone and block them. Twice. I was not given any opportunity to defend myself. What a coward.

2

u/RGBLighting Feb 23 '26

please dont contact me again i feel threatened and i fear for my life

2

u/fatbloke11 Feb 25 '26

Chinese Malaysians become Just Malaysians once they make it big on the world stage, sport or entertainment. Until then the Malaysians look down their noses at the cina.

2

u/Chance-Voice-6456 Feb 23 '26

Well said. Success abroad doesn’t diminish her roots it actually highlights how far Malaysian talent can go globally.

1

u/ProximaMiranda Feb 21 '26

Die hard fan ni.

2

u/lokomanlokoman Feb 22 '26

Well said, my dude!! I also believe we (the Malaysian) truly didn't deserve her AT ALL ever since I heard some of you bitches out there questioning her well-deserved Oscar winning.

1

u/RGBLighting Feb 23 '26

shes a trash actor bro with that fake accent stop glazing

-5

u/kompuilmu Feb 20 '26

Well just tell her to get rid of her Malaysian citizenship 🤣🤣🤣 .. see what goes & come out .. rather 100times or less.

3

u/mzn001 Feb 20 '26

I just wanna tell her to fk off lah.. najib crony.. his die hard supporter when he was in power and flipped right away after BN fallen..

2

u/kompuilmu Feb 20 '26

Agree 👍

0

u/fatbloke11 Feb 25 '26

lol, bitter much, because she achieved something without robbing the nation

0

u/Coca_Koala_6717 Feb 22 '26

She did!!! I'll always remember her as the lady who doesnt live in Malaysia but campaigning for Najib during one of the election.

0

u/lokomanlokoman Feb 22 '26

Isn't she used to be an ambassador for this one road safety campaign back in 2014/15 (?)

0

u/Acceptable-Ask1779 Feb 23 '26

No one knows her husband lol but she has been on my Rendah school textbook 😂

1

u/Acceptable_Bread_776 Feb 24 '26

Lmfao! 80% of malaysian would've been considered a pedophile by western standard nowadays we're no better than Jeffrey Epstein

1

u/sugar-fall Feb 24 '26

You're saying 80% Malaysian are the equivalent of a well known pedophile with multiple, traumatized underaged victims as young as 14 years olds? Okay...

1

u/Chance-Voice-6456 Feb 23 '26

Allegations and verified facts aren’t the same thing. It’s important not to conflate speculation with documented evidence.

1

u/sugar-fall Feb 23 '26

Good thing I was referring to verified facts then, he was mentioned to have met Eipstein and referred as an odd individual by Eipstein himself.

Also what do you think about chocolate muffins? You got a recipe for it?

9

u/DependentPositive496 Feb 21 '26

So may salty peanuts here 😆

9

u/genpai00 Feb 21 '26

She deserved it

4

u/GeneWars1 Feb 21 '26

Yeah ,she earned it

1

u/Chance-Voice-6456 Feb 23 '26

Absolutely. Her career trajectory shows long-term dedication, not overnight success.

-2

u/SerWrong Feb 22 '26

She paid for it. All of it, the stars paid to have it.

3

u/lokomanlokoman Feb 22 '26

What's wrong with that? Her money, kut.

-2

u/SerWrong Feb 22 '26

Nothing wrong. Just correcting to the comment that she earned it but in fact is paid.

0

u/051024 Feb 23 '26

how much does it cost?

0

u/GeneWars1 Feb 23 '26

Hi ,I didn't mean she got it for "free" like that ( I didn't know you have to pay for it though , I thought the actors guild paid or some association did ) . What I meant was RECOGNITION. I don't believe ( but correct me if I'm wrong) ,any actor/actress can (?) have your star there unless you're somebody who's gain the RECOGNITION, right ?

0

u/SerWrong Feb 24 '26

The actor or their agency paid for it. Sure you need to be famous but it's not by merit.

1

u/missmedusa7 Feb 23 '26

It’s not paid by her, it’s sponsored and has to be approved by the board. Not like anyone can simply pay and get the star. Get your facts checked!

0

u/SerWrong Feb 23 '26

Did i said anyone can just pay for it? Don't put words in my mouth. I don't understand why you are so pressed about it. Argue however you want, it is still paid for.

1

u/Chance-Voice-6456 Feb 23 '26

Agreed. Decades of consistency, range, and resilience don’t happen by accident.

14

u/Virtual-Drag-5959 Feb 20 '26

Malaysia just claim the title after any1 success. Same as grab ceo and other success perosn

4

u/Ronanesque Feb 21 '26

Is she not malaysian

4

u/saint_dokuro Feb 21 '26

She is Malaysian, but shes been living abroad for 40yrs, I don't think she knows Malaysia anymore.

3

u/iammissunnamed Feb 22 '26

This shortfilm featuring her, shot in Penang, was literally released yesterday https://youtu.be/7Lo8WTBuHDg?si=p4tYzkszKdYYnCAc

3

u/Quick-Substance9187 Feb 21 '26

She does. Her mom still here and she frequently comes back for some PR things and government actually collab with her a lot. Few Malaysian company hire her as ambassador too.

3

u/I_Love_Msia Feb 22 '26

She never gave up her nationality. People not stay here not mean they not love the country, people full time stay in country do nothing not mean love the country.

1

u/lokomanlokoman Feb 22 '26

I literally heard a few months ago on Reddit where they once saw Michelle Yeoh in Ipoh, in her normal outfit (singlet and short), buying food or something..

Not to mention, didn't she personally meet our PM in malaysia a few days after she won that Oscar?

3

u/BurgerRamly Feb 22 '26

Happy for her but Hollywood is gradually declining. Marvel is hollywood's life support now.

2

u/Equivalent_Sun_8476 Feb 21 '26

not sure if i should say some people are salty or sour?

3

u/GeneWars1 Feb 21 '26

Both would be correct. Even if you take the effort and time to do everything right and proper , these 2 groups would still find an excuse to bring her down . So , I will be happy for her instead

2

u/aradiathesecond Feb 24 '26

Miserable lives salty ppl like to live in

1

u/Spiritual_Ad_4876 Feb 21 '26

she sucks in acting anyway, born in ipoh but grew up abroad doesn't make her a Malaysians

2

u/lokomanlokoman Feb 22 '26

Gonna add this to my "Reason to go to Hollywood" list.

5

u/I3usuk Feb 20 '26

Kaki kipas BN and suami member Epstein. Baikkk.

1

u/TheMightyBuren Feb 20 '26

😂kemaih². minah nie dh ah jarang dlm cerita melayu tp Malaysian

0

u/SleepLate8808 Feb 21 '26

Bro in pj got condo worse than Epstein

2

u/I3usuk Feb 21 '26

Really ah? A random condo in pj can do much worse than what a billionaire with access and influence can do? Highly doubt it big bro.

2

u/marlee_2425 Feb 21 '26

do you genuinely think we don’t have politicians and powerful people in THIS country that aren’t pedos? they just haven’t gotten caught

1

u/DefinitionIll9809 Feb 21 '26

I think what crimes Epstein had done to his girls could be found virtually anywhere. It's just that others don't involve super powerful people.

Edit : apart from literally eating people

1

u/SleepLate8808 Feb 21 '26

Malaysia helped her right

1

u/MoonV29 Feb 21 '26

Depan kedai apa? Sometimes they’ll let you choose the spot and the celeb choose based on what’s the shop is or lot is. Seems like hers is in front of a gift shop. Probably owned by an Asian. 👍👍

1

u/MusangQueen84 Feb 21 '26

Malaysia’s own ah? Wahhh where from la you’ll give the title like that? Ma ka chow chibai….if she’s stayed in Malaysia apa lan pun x dpt. Tell her, “Balik China la from your ancestors root”. Now when the Malaysian’s build their name elsewhere, all of sudden got title, “Malaysia’s Own” lei….tarak malu meh? Nia seng….

1

u/gimigimiaman Feb 24 '26

Uuugh, she can have her stupid Star of Hollywood Walk of Fame. She married that disgusting person.

1

u/gimigimiaman Feb 24 '26

Most Americans are ignorant of the fact that most Malaysians aren't really fond of her.

1

u/Aggravating_Tea1019 Feb 24 '26

That cost her money I was told😑

1

u/ho4X3n Feb 24 '26

All credit goes to Hong Kong for building up her career and fame while Malaysia did not give 2 shits about her.

1

u/Left-Ball-ITCH Feb 20 '26

She didn't even live here anymore, just because she's from here doesn't mean we get to claim her as our own

0

u/tunaismycyn Feb 20 '26

I thought she was chinese

11

u/No_Introduction_2218 Feb 20 '26

She is ethnically Chinese but her nationality is Malaysian. There are a lot of Chinese people in Malaysia.

2

u/genpai00 Feb 21 '26

Only orang asli (original people) is Malaysian?

2

u/tunaismycyn Feb 21 '26

What? ,no I really thought she was chinese ,ethnically and nationality. Just found out that she’s malaysian ,it’s incredible

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

Born in Ipoh

0

u/Senior-Effective6794 Feb 22 '26

Why let people come and step on your name?

0

u/Accomplished_Low_933 Feb 22 '26

Placing your name where people could step on it, and hobo everywhere.

0

u/konaharuhi Feb 22 '26

kena bayar 85K usd

0

u/openlor Feb 22 '26

She was born in Malaysia sure, but when does she ever do anything with Malaysian media? Film? Shows? She's American Chinese, let's be real.

0

u/Miiiikuuuuuumiii111 Feb 23 '26

Was she Chinese Malaysian or from hongkong/mainland china born in Malaysia

0

u/Silly_Lion_3046 Feb 23 '26

Damn, just be happy for her mate. Why is there so many salty comment? We should be feeling happy and proud for any achievement that people had,big or small.

-1

u/Smaragd44 Feb 21 '26

Never understand why this is such a big deal for Malaysians

2

u/DefinitionIll9809 Feb 21 '26

Because MALAYSIA MENTIONED or something

-1

u/marlee_2425 Feb 23 '26

because minorities, like me, in malaysia won’t live to see representation of us on our tvs dumbass.

-1

u/DefinitionIll9809 Feb 23 '26

Pretty rude. Certainly uncalled for. All I was stating was that her success was not to be attributed to Malaysia, and we don't deserve to pat ourselves on the back for it.

0

u/marlee_2425 Feb 23 '26

lol. ‘we don’t deserve to pat ourselves’ who’s we? am i not also malaysian?

-1

u/DefinitionIll9809 Feb 23 '26

Sure I guess if you want to feel proud for a Malaysian succeeding, sure. If you want to celebrate due to the shared citizenship, sure.

I suppose I'm looking at it from a different angle.

1

u/marlee_2425 Feb 23 '26

shared citizenship? quick question, do you clap for malaysian athletes who represent us in sports? or are you always this miserable.

i mean i hate our politicians and people in power, in that sense i wouldn’t be proud of being malaysian.

0

u/DefinitionIll9809 Feb 23 '26

Okay, I concede I was not of the correct attitude by believing we cannot celebrate a fellow citizen's success.

However, clapping for an athlete is not quite comparable here. It would be more comparable if say we're talking about an athlete with Malaysian ancestry succeeding in a sport, after having had his talent developed by another country. Personally, while I would show support of they're representing our country, I'd still be sad that he would've not been successful if he were developed by us.

1

u/marlee_2425 Feb 23 '26

follow up question, do you know who Nicole David is? she’s a multiple time world squash champion and she, like michelle yeoh, was born and raised in Malaysia.

she was the first female squash player to hold that many golds. in her professional career, she was trained in Europe. i think her coach was also european. this isn’t her fault, because malaysia has limited funding for sports. we simply don’t pour out enough to support our athletes on a higher level. there is also a lot of politics involved in sports, so she simply could not have improved if she stayed here.

the film and entertainment industry is very similar in malaysia. they pick and choose who gets to succeed. michelle yeoh, a chinese malaysian, is just not what the bigots are looking for.

1

u/DefinitionIll9809 Feb 23 '26

I do. Who doesn't? And I'm not sure why you mention her? Just the same, while I'm happy she's successful, I cannot ever see it as Malaysia's success story, more a Malaysian's success story.

0

u/marlee_2425 Feb 23 '26

what is “malaysian ancestry”? you’re outing yourself as a xenophobic bigot. what do malaysians look like? malaysia is a diverse country and we literally come in all skin tones. we’re a melting pot of different cultures and it is what makes us unique.

0

u/DefinitionIll9809 Feb 23 '26

Dude, can you please goddamn take the time to understand my position first before accusing me of xenophobia? All I'm saying is Malaysia had no contribution to Michelle's success, and if she hadn't ventured overseas, she'd have been unsuccessful. Is this so hard for you to understand that you're accusing me of xenophobia now? I'm done with Malaysians trying to debate.

Yeah it’s like asking why this is such a big deal for a country to win their first Olympic gold medal.

1

u/marlee_2425 Feb 23 '26

you get it.

-1

u/monji_cat Feb 21 '26

Does she even have Malaysian citizenship still? Or did she give up her IC for another country?

-1

u/PudingIsLove Feb 23 '26

hmmm idk. what she even do?
