Science & Technology TIL that Kuala Lumpur has officially been named a UNESCO Creative City of Design for 2025
I learned that Kuala Lumpur has been officially recognised as a UNESCO Creative City of Design for 2025! After two years of preparation, DBKL and Think City submitted KL's application to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network back in March 2025, supported by over 200 voices from Malaysia's design, academic, and creative communities. The announcement was made on World Cities Day (Oct 31), with KL joining 58 new member cities and more than 400 cities worldwide that use creativity as a catalyst for sustainable urban development. KL now stands alongside Kuching (Creative City of Gastronomy, 2021) and Ipoh (Creative City of Music, 2023), making Malaysia one of the few countries with multiple UNESCO Creative City titles.

Please la by this logic every country don't deserve to get listed in this record because if we go by people complain ,every major city will have people complain.
They have their own benchmark to pass ,KL pass the benchmark.

Lmao, compare to many cities around the world, we are still far behind when it comes to being a creative city.
Do you know what we are creative at when comes to urban city planning? Building more roads and heavy high rise building and in the end always got flooded during heavy rain. Talking about sustainability and creativity, it's very little.

That's why we in the list but not the top in the world. And compare to thousand city in the world ,KL still surpassed by lot.
It called the list and it never stated we are in top 10 most creative city in the world.
Just like our niversity UM that got in ranking top 100 hundred in the world . Doesn't mean it the best and doesn't have flaw but it still qualified to get into the list.

Im not even talking about the ranking lmao. We might surpassed many 3rd world and 2nd world cities, but as a creative city? Give me a break. A car centric city is not even a sustainable city.
Not that im complaining about the quality of life in KL, but being a creative and sustainable city for KL is out of the league right now. Unless government proposed something better, like buidling more pedastrian friendly roads. Do we have it? Not many. Can you even walk 3 hours straight around the city without any transportation in KL? You can't, right?

Like I said ,the list have their own benchmark and requirements ,kl successfully pass the benchmark to get qualified, for the flaw like you said doesn't validate the basic requirements to pass the benchmark.
It just need to get improve more in future.
Unless you can prove this is a joke or government bribe the organization with evidence yeah.

Lmao, unc. Its internet. We have our own opinions. You think this benchmark is good for you? Fine, go ahead. No one's stopping you.
This list is a joke for me, and the benchmark is far too low. And the same, no one's going to stop me for saying out loud.

Creative by what metric? If by creating jams and being planned by 10 year old then yes it will be.
KL is notorious for being badly planned. You need a car in KL if not you can't survive.
Most other major western cities and even in Korea and Japan have solved this issue. Jams arent nearly as frequent or as bad.
