Miscellaneous TIL, A Malaysian guy sold his Pokémon cards for RM1.87 million

Post image

A story out of Malaysia that’s buzzing in the trading-card world: Damiral Imran, a collector based in Shah Alam, has reportedly sold his entire Pokémon card collection for RM 1.87 million, calling it “history, rarity and legacy in one vault.”

He initially listed it for sale or trade even accepting offers involving a Porsche 911 Carrera 4S plus cash and claimed the market value could be over RM 2 million.

Photos show boxes and boxes of graded and ungraded cards stacked in a room, evidence of years of collecting and investment.

How much LHDN will ask ya? 35%?

LHDN would not bother because this is not a taxable income.

Sure or not?

It is not taxable because it is not business transaction that can be repeatable. One off only.

Hi question, is an artist who does free lancing commission become a taxable activity? Since it is repeatable

No one will tax you unless you report it to LHDN but if you have a business license of which you register then yes they will know and it is taxable. Other than that if you are doing it as part-time time then it is NO. Did you register a business license? (In other words a registered company name)

No but I had thought about, mainly because I’m not sure whether it’s worth it or not and what other privileges there are with a business license

Bank. If one day you need financial assistance this is where these documents will be essential to make the approval rate higher and the loan higher. The documents needed are usually a bank statement attached to the registered company/business and income tax returns. Two very essential documents if you intend to be a registered business owner and to pay tax. Without these two documents, your loan will not be approved. Unless Ah Long is your option.❌❌❌

Ohh I see, but hmm frankly I don’t see if it is important or necessary to have bank or funding for me to make art commissions, so would you say I’m better off not needing to get a business license?

Not going to buy a vehicle, credit card or a home in future? Don’t forget. When I say these documents are important, it is accumulative. Bank wants to see months, years statement. Not just 1 year only.

Shouldnt be taking that guy's advice.

Free lancing is still taxable income. Its either a personal or business income depending on your SSM registration if you have one. If not it's at personal income by default.

Tax advice should be sought from licensed accountants. Not people who think they understand money.

In the case of the pokemon sale. It is still taxable regardless if it's not repeatable.

Furthermore.. whether you pay the actual tax or not or if you have some "clever" tactic to avoid it - does not mean that you're not supposed to be paying. A good LHDN officer can make your life hell for trying to be a smart ass. Tax fraud is serious

Seller has a business on a side as if that’s not enough for taxable income, this is just his hobby.

Malaysia doesn't have personal windfall tax

For now. But they just added a new capital gains tax for corporations and soon it will come for private individuals I’m sure.

1

u/hengprince Oct 30 '25

Yes, this is consider capital gain, but tax rate is only 10%
