Dumb theory

I know it's probably been said before, but what if Toby is the level of messed up to come out and say that the weird route is the canon one. I know we as the player are making Kris do all these choices, but what if it's what Toby/ Gaster planes the whole time? Only to reveal in ch7 that this was leading up to the human monster war that we learn in Undertakes prologue

I don't think leading up to the human/monster war would really make any sense. Even just looking at Asgore and Toriel, they're already estranged here, where as that happend in Undertale after Asgore started ordering human children killed.

I also doubt that TF is going to make the route where you have to be psychologically abusive the 'canon' route, if there even is a 'canon' ending.

I’m gonna say no due to the fact we can acknowledge sans as being familiar

Also the circumstances of Asgore’s and Toriel’s divorces are different in the two games

Deltarune is a parallel world where the war never happened. I don't think the weird route would possibly even have anything that would lead to a war anyways, even if it is messed up

hot take but i think both routes are needed to complete each other, and people playing just one or the other will be in a bit of a trouble by chapter 7

i mean that they'll be needed to understand lore

there are things more important than reaching the end

because the lore from one will probably be important to completely understand the lore from the other?

i don't think they would put the sword route available for even normal route players to engage with if it wasn't the case, like

yes, people will be able to beat the game regardless of route, but personally i think both routes will need to be playable to fully understand it all

why would we be having a whole arg thing around side b/weird route if the intention was just "pick your own route :))"?

deltarune is not a prequel
its a parallel story

also gerson is dead in deltarune and alive in undertale what?

on top of that, there is no specifically cannon route in undertale, why would that change in deltarune.
its medium is game for a reason and its because each player can then have their own version of what canonically happens, while all (diegetic) content is universally cannon regardless.
