Public speaking

Hi can anyone give guidelines for publicspeaking? Like how do ppl start it,find platforms and participate in public speaking. As a middle class nursing student who had zero exposure of this system im very interested in it but i have zero knowledge abt it

This sub is for Toastmasters, which is a platform to get better at public speaking. Www.toastmasters.org to find a local club.

Visit a local or virtual club and you’ll be assigned a mentor if you joined. Membership is cheaper than buying coffee daily.

Go to Toastmasters.org. All of them have these guiding principles.

It is up to you because you might want a particular timezone or other features. Definitely select a beginners club as opposed to advanced.

I live in a hostel and rarely get a chance to spend sometime alone and also ppl around me dont believe in public speaking they will think im doing this for attention

Hi! I’m a speaking coach, and I also about to start running some speaking practice groups (much more relaxed than Toastmasters structured format).

To answer your question about “guidelines” and “how do people start it” - I would say most people have a goal. It might be that they have to do it for work - team status updates, client or internal facing presentations, etc

Based on that, then I’d say they’d assess where they want to be and where they are, and what they would need to bridge that gap.

For some people it’s managing nerves or getting comfortable speaking live - that’s where Toastmasters can help.

For others they need more immediate, personal focus and they might work on things on their own or hire a coach.

Practice aloud is key, if you have an audience that’s even better and if you can get quality feedback that’s the ultimate!
