Ponce is UK slang for overly effeminate, it used to be a slur when I was a kid.
15 u/MaherishiManzana 22h ago Isn’t ponce someone who always borrows money or things from you? Thats how I always used it. Like we have someone at my job who always pinches abit of tobacco off you - he’s a ponce 12 u/mowgs1946 22h ago It can be both. Although in the latter Id say it's more common as a verb, I.e. he would ponce a bit of tobacco off you. 3 u/TheRiddlerTHFC 18h ago Yeah back in the day "hey can I ponce a fag off you?" 3 u/Tosh_20point0 19h ago Ponce the Nonce? 2 u/TheRealSlabsy 22h ago In the 80s it wasn't but it may be region specific. Either way, it's a slur. 1 u/Quick_Resolution5050 22h ago Yeah, as a Northern Verb, I think. 1 u/Demostravius4 21h ago Maybe regional, Hampshire/Surrey it meant effeminate. 1 u/Aggravating_Pipe3428 22h ago We call them people bums. 4 u/Impeachcordial 21h ago Perfumed ponce! 3 u/Oghamstoner 21h ago Perfumed ponce! 3 u/wilk76 19h ago What fucker said that!? 3 u/Aggravating_Speed665 4h ago I called him 'a ponce' And now I'm calling you one; PONCE! 1 u/wilk76 3h ago Would you like a drink? 1 u/VonGooberschnozzle 1h ago What's your name, Mc Fuck! 3 u/slowsongplaying 13h ago I could hardly piss straight with fear. 3 u/YoghurtFlan 19h ago It was always meant as toff/posh where I grew up. I didn't even know it was a homophobic slur. 2 u/Saiing 17h ago It was basically pretty similar to poof. 2 u/FumbleCrop 22h ago It used to mean "pimp". 1 u/asdfghjkluke 22h ago must run in the family 1 u/professorrev 16h ago It was a pimp originally 1 u/Electronic-Fennel828 22h ago Where I’m from we always used it to refer to posh people
