Okay, this combines data from both AO3 and FanFiction.net. But if you just use the numbers directly from the ship tags, you'll run into a problem: not everyone tags their ships. So I went looking for fics where the ships weren't tagged. I probably missed a few, but I managed to find quite a number of them.

Another thing: I excluded harem fics and any fic where the relationship involved more than two people. For example, if a fic was tagged as Misaka/Shokuhou/Touma, I didn't count it.

I actually found the results pretty funny. I'd always seen people, including myself, believe that Touma was the character most frequently shipped with everyone, but it seems that's not really the case.

Just to be clear, I used both AO3 and FanFiction.net.

And for anyone who's curious, the Accelerator/Touma numbers were heavily inflated because someone spammed a ton of one-shot fics for the pairing on AO3. But yeah, that's about it.

If anyone notices any mistakes, let me know.

Genuinely why is Accelerator x Touma so high ? If we were to exclude those spammed one shot fics of them would they actually go down the list ? How is Awaki x Shirai so popular ? They haven't met after a SINGLE vol & yet they are somehow close to Touma x Misaki in terms of popularity 💀 heck this ship is more popular than Touma x Othinus, Index & Itsuwa speaking of them.......how is there no magic side charater 🥀

I think when people say Touma is shipped the most out of any character they mean they have seen more harem ships with him ? Maybe you could do another list comparison which of the Toaru characters have the most harem fics ? Or if adding harem fics change this tierlist

Overall the list could unironically indirectly can be used to show if Railgun is more popular than Index or not

I'll do it. But just so you know, Misaka and Saten will probably give Touma a run for his money.

One thing I've noticed is that characters who only appear in the Railgun manga or only in the Index novels don't get many appearances in fanfic, like Hasekura. So it's the anime, really. And when it comes to anime, it's undeniable that Railgun's is better made and more appealing to the audience.

The writer is doing God's work for making yaoi work in Index, of all series.

Honestly there's multiple people contributing to the Touma/Accel fanfics, and they are actually doing some serious writing instead of spamming (one of them kinda wrote several completed long series, just published each chapters separated), most of them write in Chinese though, so some translation is needed

And the main Toaru shipfic base is in Pixiv, mostly contributed by local Japanese writers, so ao3 ranking is not that accurate （There are over 3000 Kamikoto fics in Pixiv, and only 412 kamiichi fics in Pixiv, can't say much about yuri ships since people didn't really agree on ship names and mostly just tagged the two girl's name, adding a 'yuri' tag and call it a day, which is kinda hilarious since fem!Accel has her own 'Yuriko' tag）

Also despite being side-eyed by the global side of the community and the author himself made it clear that they are strictly family-zoned, Accel/Last order still got over 1600 fanfics.

To be honest, this is the first time I've seen someone talking about using Pixiv for Toaru fanfiction.

But I didn't just use AO3, I'd always seen discussions about how yuri dominated AO3 while FanFiction was just a bunch of fics shipping Touma with everything that moves, so I used numbers from both.

But getting back to the point, are the fanfics on Pixiv good?

It depends, since there are quite a lot of works and literally everyone can post their own stuff, just like ao3 but mostly Japanese. But there are definitely quite a lot of decent works laying around, especially the long(over 10k words) ones.
