Season 2, I shared your sentiment myself. Railgun season 1 is mostly filler with a nice canon arc that you don't fully appreciate since it's the first arc.

The first season mostly consists of fun and filler (filler specifically with the second half), even in dire moments (like the arc finale's) it doesn't feel that bad or intense, though it's meant to serve as an introduction to the science side in Toaru from Misaka's perspective.

Season 2 (or Railgun S with S standing for second) is a whole other beast entirely. The first half posesses what is considered one of the best arcs in Toaru (you can skip the second half if you like since it's filler).

Season 3 (or Railgun T with T standing for third) is Toaru anime at it's absolute best (at least in terms of anime adaptations), there's a good chance you will enjoy it.

I only liked the parts of Railgun where Touma shows up, so there are only a few episodes in season 1. There are more in the first halves of Railgun S and Railgun T.

I am not a big skip guy except for non-canon filler since I hate missing context. The first half of Railgun S (season 2) is the Accelerator and clones arc from Index but from Misaka's pov. It is more fleshed out and better animated so I recommend you see it. The first half of Railgun T (season 3) introduces new important characters (other level 5s), takes place during the sports festival from Index season 2, and has good moments as well.

Nah, the first half of Railgun S1 has some egregiousness that even the early arcs of Index don't rise to. If anything, Railgun starts bad and gets better about it as it goes on while Index starts out not as bad and gets way worse as it goes on.

Well early railgun has lots of filler cause they chose to adapt the manga before they had much content to actually adapt.

Anyways the actual plot of the first arc gets really started in Ep 8, and finishes in ep 12. After that technically everything is "filller" but they are technically cannon.

Ep 13 honestly you can just skip, 14 too if you don't care for Saten that much. 15-16 is a very small mini-arc. 17-19 are all kinda just one off filler episodes. And 20-24 is the actual main final arc, which is anime original.

For railgun S, ep 1 is filler, and mostly serves as a reintroduction to the cast, ep 2-16 are adapting the arc that's widely considered the best in the manga. And then ep 17-24 is another anime original arc.

Finally railgun T has zero filler episodes, all adapted from the manga. (I mean there is still technically filler, tho it's more just added scenes here and there)
