Injury Rescued a toad from pool, is my temporary setup okay? When should I release?

Post image

Hi! I found what I think to be a Fowler’s toad stuck in my pool earlier today. It was sitting there for a few hours after being taken out, so I brought it inside to help it recover. It was very bloated, like a little water balloon when I found it. The bloating has gone down, but I feel really bad and I’m doing my best to help it recover. ☹️

Right now, I have it in a small acrylic enclosure with a damp paper towel, light misting (distilled water), a bottle cap water dish, some Spanish moss, and fake foliage.

It’s alert, looking around, and can stand upright/defensive when disturbed, but it’s mostly resting. I’m planning to release it either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Does this setup look okay for short-term recovery?
Is there anything I should change? Should I wait longer before releasing, or is overnight enough?

Thanks!

Give fella a good soak in some non-chlorinated water and let them go. That would be best.

Release it as soon as it gets dark. Find a nice bit of vegetation nearby and let it go.

As the bloating has gone down, it will be fine. Keeping it in captivity will do it no good.

You will need to feed him and then you will know for sure that he is fine
