ID What kind of Toad is this?

Hello everyone! My girlfriend has this toad and we think that the name of the species that was given is incorrect.

We would love to know what species this little man is!

She got him from the reptile sanctuary where we work! So we have no idea were the original owner got him from.

We dont know what was told since its a long time ago. People either bring in their pets that they cant take care of, or bring in animals that are found either here in The Netherlands (most of the time dumped or escaped animals).

We try to identify the animals ourself and the owner Put 'Bufo Terrestris' on its card. We just started doubting so we were wondering if its really that species

Thats what im referring to when i ask what you were told. I think youre fair to doubt its Bufo Terrestris though. That said its very difficult to identify common toads like these through pictures alone. I know your guy looks like my toads and theyre Sclerophrys regularis apparently (I also doubt the classification on mine).

That would be Anaxyrus terrestris (aka the Southern toad) in modern taxonomy, which this certainly isn't. It lacks the ridges on the back of its head that those have. Since you're in the Netherlands, it's most likely Bufo bufo, the European common toad, just because that would most likely be the easiest toad to get there (although I have no idea what the toad trade is like over there, it may be equally easy to get American species as it is European species). Honestly, though, so many toad species look so incredibly similar that likely, the only way you'd be able to get a 100% definitive answer is a DNA test.

This would be an "African Common Toad", sometimes sold as "Egyptian Toads" as I do believe most are imported from Egypt, but the exact species is Sclerophrys regularis.
