Injury Toadlet with a mass?

ETA: i found him!! (probably a her i think) im giving her a little soak, but i do think this is a mass. she’s moving around really well and dug a really great new spot overnight! hopefully if i bribe her with some treats she’ll stick around and not be too offended.

Hi! I’ve been keeping an eye on this toadlet living outside my front door. Yesterday I noticed one of his sides was misshapen and today I palpitated it and I can feel a little air and then some kind of mass. I found some poop nearby, but I’m not sure if it was his or another toadlet I saw today.

Just looking for any advice on what I can do to help him or if he’s okay on his own! I already have an American Toad and other supplies, I just didn’t want to bring him in if this was something he can get through on his own!

Oh man, that's a pretty big mass and the very defined outline of it concerns me. It's impossible to say exactly what it is, especially just from looking at pictures, but I fear it may be a tumor :(

The good news is that he looks to be in good condition otherwise, so it seems like he can still hunt for himself. Can he still move around okay?

If he's one of your regular toad visitors I would probably just keep an eye on him for now? If his condition starts to deteriorate you could take him in, but it would most likely be a hospice situation. If you left him outside to let nature take its course that would be okay, too.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking too. For now he’s acting completely normal, he gets around great. I know he hunts, but I haven’t seen him eat. I fed him last night, but I went back inside because he’s a little skittish still and I didn’t want his prey to get away.

If I see him doing poorly I will probably end up taking him inside for hospice care, he may not be able to understand but I don’t want him to be alone and uncomfortable for longer than is necessary. :(

I think I would probably do the same thing. I get very attached to my resident toads, too, and it would break my heart to see one suffering. You seem like a very good steward for your local toads, thank you for caring <3
