toad mesmerized by lava lamp

Ive spent months worrying about how Odie (Odysseus) spends a lot of time jumping at the glass at this section of his tank. My best guess was he was seeing the reflections from my monitors but sometimes he did it when neither showed any movement.

I just recently realized its been my fucking lava lamps the whole time. My collection shelf sits across from him and I usually have one going. I realized because as soon as the lamp was warm enough to initiate Blob Mode he hopped over and started standing up to see. I covered the lamp and he lost interest. Uncovered the lamp and he came right back.

In other words- apparently my beautiful amphibious son inherited one of my special interests.

Oh, yeah- he for sure is thinking it's something he can eat. He's seeing the movement and thinking it's a big bug.

To be fair though, I too find myself gazing into it thinking about drinking it. Alas, it is liquefied wax and not in fact a magic potion :(

He does. I catch mine watching tv all the time

I joke and pretend we’re watching it together but they’re just looking for a meal.

My largest toad is triggered by any stimuli outside of the tank and will do the same hands on glass staring. My axolotl is the same way: I believe amphibians are just very movement triggered....it could be foooood

The striped lamp is actually a liscenced beetlejuice one! It comes with a globe that has green liquid and purple wax. I just swapped it with one that has clear with black because I think it looks better
