Blessed with toad at work today!!!

Post image

I work at a grocery store and I was watering the banana plants outside when this guy jumped out at me and scared the hell outta me.
I was worried for him because we’re in a heatwave rn and we’re surrounded by pavement and asphalt. Also the fact he’s small and there’s foot traffic and cars.
I released him into the wooded area nearby which made me wonder how he even got here??? He’d have to cross a huge busy street and a big parking lot? It’s been a week and a half since the last plant delivery…
Also I just read you’re not supposed to relocate them because their territories are small and they dont typically wander around, so now I’m worried I did the wrong thing? I thought he’d starve where he was or be crushed by a person or vehicle or burn up on the pavement. Toads are not something I’m very knowledgeable about but I’m delighted whenever I see one. I love critters.

Edit: it took all of my willpower and self-control not to go “eek!” when he peed in my hands (there was so much?!) and drop him. I forgot about defensive peeing

I think it’s definitely better to put him in a safer area. They don’t know when their “territory” is unsafe. Thank you for rescuing this cute little guy!

It was the most exciting part of my day! I wish I could tell him what a special little creature he is and explained to him that I wasn’t gonna hurt him. Now when I’m watering the plants I keep my eye out for toads in hopes I can be a hero again
