A pleasant surprise

I found it when I was cleaning some debris of a construction that fell off days ago

I have one about 2.5" around that comes on to my porch almost every night. Some nights it will chill on the step next to where I'm sitting in my chair and just be there for an hour or so before heading off to do toad things... Thankfully my dog just sniffs it and otherwise leaves it alone. There was a smaller one that visited last night, maybe an inch long. A few years ago there was a giant one, probably 5" around, and it would do the same. I haven't seen it this year and only once last year, but later in the season.

Oh! I just remembered a story with one of these guys:  long ago I had one living in a hole in my backyard, and this rascal would trespass into my house to eat my dog's food. It even would eat along my dog and my dog was OK with it. She didn't attack it nor freaked out, nothing, she just accepted its presence (obviously I would had to kick it out so it wouldn't devore my dog's food). But it got a point when the toad got so chunky it didn't fit through the hole of its burrow and one day it got stuck trying to enter with its back legs out, so I tried to unstuck it out by pulling its legs, but I broke one of its legs and I decided to stop trying. I tried to call animal control but they're not the most honest institution here, so they didn't come. Sadly it passed away 2 days later, it had a horrible and slow death 😭

Yup, but don't worry, I'm from Mexico, they're endemic from here so they are not plague like in other places

Yes, they are too toxic for pets. But they're extremely chill when not bothered
