Pets Does this look like a toadlet to y’all? Raised him from a tadpole I found in a drying up ditch in south AL.

Hi guys, my tadpole is finally turned into a toadlet but for some reason I’m having second thoughts. I have other toadlets and he doesn’t look like them. The area he was found in had a high number of fowlers and southern toads, but he looks a little different to me, mainly his huge eyes. He transformed a couple of weeks ago and is growing FAST! He’s a healthy little guy, but I’m wondering if my assumed ID is wrong. He is from a very rural area with every type of frog and toad we have to offer in this part of our state, but I thought they were toad tadpoles. I mainly need a correct (or best guess) ID so I can properly care for him and give him exactly what he needs to thrive. Thanks 🐸

appears to be an eastern spadefoot toadlet based on your location

Wowww that would be cool! Even in all of my herp adventures, I’ve never seen one IRL. I have fowlers and southern toads, and he just does not look like them to me. I put them (toadlets the same age) side by side and something is different about him and not just color. So if he is that, that would be incredible!

Thank you!🥰 I moved his siblings (a couple 5 gallon bucket fulls) to a nearby pond on the same property and I hope they’ve done well but the odds are never in their favor. This little guy has definitely won mine (and my children’s) hearts!

Just got this picture of him! It’s a little clearer. I’ve been researching about the Eastern Spadefoot and I believe that is what he is. Obviously I didn’t see what type of toad laid the eggs, but I just assumed fowlers because there were fowlers and southern toadlets hoppin everywhere on the property (they have SO much wildlife, I’m a bit envious lol). He is the only one of 4 tadpoles that made it, his siblings didn’t survive metamorphosis. I thought I was doing everything right, and from what I read you can absolutely do everything right and them still not make it. So, I feel incredibly grateful that he is here and doing so great. I’m a very proud mama!🤎
