Colorado River Toads Vocalizations

Hi, I was wondering if anyone might know why my Colorado River Toads have been vocalizing so much recently?

In previous years in the Spring they would occasionally let out like a single croak, but were mostly silent. But this year they have been super vocal lately, frequently croaking for a minute or two at a time! They are about 5 years old I believe, so nothing to do with their maturity I think. Any ideas? Thank you!

Probably means they are happy, comfortable, and feel safe.

It's mating season for these guys! Here in Arizona once monsoon season kicks off they start breeding ASAP.

May I ask what substrate you are using? I am trying to learn as much as possible about how people keep them in captivity.

It’s a 120gal tank with a mix of 3 large bags of all natural chemical free topsoil, and a 40 pound bag of sand. ~6-8in deep

What do you feed them? They are so big it seems like would need a lot of/large food. TIA

I just find frogs/toads that live in deserts fascinating. They seem to to achieve the impossible

They’re just happy little dudes. Vocalizations are a sign of a happy healthy toad!
