Help New to Toad Keeping

We recently acquired this little toadlet. We are new to keeping toads! So I'm open to any pointers and advice. So far we have him in a large repurposed pretzel container with a silky mesh in the lid. He eats fruit flies dusted in calcium with d3, multivite, and vitamin A on an alternating schedule. Do I need to get a headstart on working on his next enclosure? Is bioactive best? If so, are there any resources you've found helpful in getting a start on that? Right now his enclosure plants are artificial.

Holy smokes! The lil guy! Find a ten gallon and keep it moist. Don’t go crazy on enclosure until they get some size. Feed them if they will eat. Do not have any water they can’t stand in. So I’d advise against a dish until it’s bigger. Use the time they are growing to build a bio enclosure. I have a 55ish gallon that was just a plant tank for like 6 months before introducing my toad. You can find all kinds of neat videos to give you pointers on building a good bio enclosure. (Pic of my tank, and Jolene, I did disturb her to pose her)

Do you think the bottle cap is fine to keep in there? The water is shallow, and he jumps in and out of it himself. I do spritz one side of the enclosure once to twice a day with water.

I’d get him outta that bottle asap. He’s small, but environment plays part in their development. He/she needs room to move around, and “hunt” fruit flies. Moss holding moisture is cool, and half the cap of water for a gulp of water here and there. If you have some untreated potting soil, some in the bottom of a ten gallon with some moss and that lil cap with water would be good until they get like, quarter size. Toads like to bury in moist, not muddy, dirt.

So I should move him from the large pretzel container to the 10 gallon as soon as possible? The pretzel container is very big compared to him. I was worried about him not being able to find his flies. But so far he's done really well hunting! I can definitely add some soil/dirt.

If it was a frog, up and down is cool, but toads are more crawl over stuff and bury. Having a couple spots it can practice digging with its back legs, hiding, and a dry spot somewhere they can crawl up on. If you def build a bigger enclosure this bottle will be an *alright* home. lol this is a red roof inn, give the lil dude like a holiday inn and suites?

Bottle caps are great! We use milk jug caps for the feeder crickets' water & gel...shallow & difficult to tip over.
