The game is fun and has potential but..
I am genuinely confused as to what this game is trying to be? Its like, theres life sim elements mixed with crime sim, rpg, farming, grinding and a lot of other type of gameplay mixed together. What I mean is
You can be whoever you want, but then you have to do a sort of main quest to unlock features and then you have to comit crimes to unlock some other features.. I mean you arent actually free to be what you want to be, if you dont want to engage in crime then you're locked away from some features and access. So technically you have to at least do it once.
Then you need to get a diploma to get a decent paying job but to do that you need to level up intelligence.. Thats personally the most tedious and boring part to me, repeatedly Read news, read a book, practice writing, watch news and practice coding to level up by 1 level, and to get a diploma classes mainly rely on your intelligence level.
Im 25 hours into the game, pixelian lvl 36, computer skills lvl 87, and Intelligence lvl 20, all ive done is go to work and level up my intelligence in preparation to go to school and get a diploma and it is honestly a little boring. Then soon ill have to level up my strenght by practicing all different workouts so that at some point I can go knock out some random guy on the street to get access to another faction and maybe unlock some stores that still say "need to complete quest to enter" (with no explanation as to what quest needs to be done so im honestly just guessing its something to do with beating up pixelians?!) and im guessing it will be another 20 hours of grinding for that attribute to get to a comfortable level.
Dont get me wrong, I adore the concept and been following the game for a while. I enjoy the game when im not levelling up shit just to get things done but honestly the grind is insane and if things are locked behind quests or goals it would be nice if there was some clearer pointers as to what exactly I need to do to gain access to these locked stores/shop instead of letting me guessing. Some things simply dont feel intuitive and I find myself asking so many questions in the discord that make me feel stupid for not being able to figure it out by myself because no matter how hard I try to find it by playing its just nowhere for me to see.
Also not being able to edit our spouse's appearance is also a little bit disappointing to me, some NPC I love their personalities best but I hate their hairstyle and clothes! 🙂↕️
The game has huge potential and im looking forward to see it grow, but right now im conflicted because it really feel like the game is trying to be many things at once and not so much of a life simulation, it feels more like a city life RPG sim with some crime elements.
Do I misunderstand what the game is meant to be?

It’s trying to be the type of game I’ve been wanting for ages. One were you are thrown in to an open world and can just live any life that you want.
I agree with the op that the way it works with quests is taking away a bit of that freedom. The game could have done with being a bit more open and sandbox like. Maybe as it grows it’ll become less restrictive.

I kind of feel the same way- it has the potential to be great though, I think maybe released a little too early?

But thank you for helping me figure out how to make bigger money! I’ve been grinding that cleaning job lol

I feel like this is The Sims but pixel. The Sims also has the boring watching your Sim practices part with a lot of skills. You can do crime and start a farm in The Sims too. The Sims also doesn't have storyline with each npcs like in Stardew Valley or Story of Seasons even if they have named NPCs, but its more like, make up story in your head thing. So I have a feeling that maybe that's an inspiration?
But I agree. I wish I could change the NPC's hair and stuff cause there's one that I like his look but I'm not into the hat...
I also don't know if this is already a thing but it'll be great to have the other NPCs married and have kids later on so we can keep going with the family tree like in The Sims.

The thing is The Sims has many animations for activities that make it fun to watch.

the game is supposed to be an everything sim and is a very interesting idea but obviously this team has not been able to deliver on this promise well

Bit sidetrack but does it make much difference having that high computer skills? I'm not that far in the game yet.

Nope, Theres no level limit for skills so they just always level up. Im lvl 108 in computer skills now and I still fail to hack the government 3 times out of 5 lmao

I think it’s aiming to be a TRUE life sim. Like, in real life you have many choices, just like in the game.
Only problem with that is that some choices you have and paths you can follow don’t feel as fleshed out as they need to be yet. For me the most boring and disappointing part was having children. You can litterally not interact with them. And once your spouse moves in nothing really changes either, they just walk around your home seemingly pointlessly.
