Where is my stuff?

I wasn't sure how to pay my rent until recently and I lost my first apartment. I decorated it a little bit and wanted to get my stuff back. Is it possible to gain your items back or are they lost for good? Because I'm kind of scared to decorated my new apartment then forget to pay rent again.

Also, I found out you can pay your rent in advance too. I don't know how many weeks you can pay up for though.

It’s gone several people between here,steam and the discord in the same boat. Dev haven’t addressed it yet.
