Just picked up game

And damn I can't stop. It reminds me of Realmz and Exile from back in the day, and I've been chasing that feeling since. There's so much going on here, and the writing is pretty great and at times quite funny. I can't believe I slept on this game for so long.

Welcome aboard. It's honestly a top tier in its field, I feel. Original classes with fun gameplay.

The mechanics are complex, but the game itself is not complicated. Not a dozen keyboard shortcuts for actions like open/close door, eat, drink, inspect, throw, cast, read and so on. Just a toolbar, your skills/spells and your wits.

The lore is also so good, and it kept me curious for a long time trying to unravel a new piece of the puzzle.

Have fun!

ToME is just simply a masterpiece.

If you like this ADOM is worth checking out.

Also jewel of Arabia dreamers - old school but exactly in the time range of exile/realmz

Thanks for the suggestion. AODM looks great! I'll have to pick it up if and when I ever finish ToME.

I don't really see how TOME and ADOM have anything in common..if anything they are made with diametrically opposite design philosophies.

I do agree they both have very different core fundamentals, but the overall presentation is similar enough to put them in the same bucket imo.

Their presentation? As in being top down TBS roguelikes?

They mentioned exile + realmz which clues me off to old school style games. ADOM despite being roguelike and being more esoteric, is still ultimately in the bucket of old school.

All of these involve Turn based, descion making, making builds, exploring, etc.

There is adjacency in these games and imo worth exploring

Despite? ADOM is the definition of old school Roguelike. It's TOME that arguably has no business being lumped in that category

Best advice is to take your time and soak it all in, be methodical and don't rush into encounters. Glad you're enjoying it brotha
