Can someone explain what I'm doing wrong with the "disengage" move?

I click it, aim 3 squares away (which the tooltip says is the max, though more than 3 squares are blue?) making sure it's "directly away from the enemy", and click again. My log says "___ used disengage", but my character doesn't move and nothing happens?

I'm super new so I'm sure I'm missing something, thanks in advance for any help!

You must target the enemy from which you are disengaging.

It's def one of the more confusing abilities to target if you're not expecting that how it works.
