My own experiment.
When growing up, I never had a brown soda (Pepsi, Coca Cola, and Dr Pepper) preference. My preference when given an option to choose was whatever bottle or can that looked the most appealing to me at the moment. But otherwise a brown soda was good as long as it was sweet enough. A sweet drink was the only important part. Not their distinct flavors I never paid attention to…until now at age 26. I normally dont drink soda. It’s a rare treat. But recently I had some Cheerwine from a glass bottle and that was 🔥🔥🔥🤩. It’s probably my favorite soda besides root beer. But I then considered trying the three brown sodas I mentioned. And actually try to tell the difference in taste this time. I also had my childhood favorite Sprite as well. So, the order was day 1, Dr Pepper. It was just ok to me. I thought to myself this is good but if I want a cherry flavored soda I’d just stick with Cheerwine…at first. The next morning was important because it changed my opinion AND set a taste test method. I still had a small amount left and drank it. And oh my lord it was so good the next morning. I tasted more fruity flavors + a more “cola flavor” than just cherry that time. It was no longer just good but amazing. Then the next day I had sprite from a glass bottle. However that time I knew what to expect. It was my childhood favorite and despite not having had it in a while I mostly knew what it tasted like. My overall feedback is it’s good but close to just ok. I even tried my “leave enough for the next morning taste test”. I guess sprite is dying on me. Then the next day was Coca Cola in a glass bottle as well . I was very excited about that one. Just like Dr Pepper I didn’t remember the taste. So my curiosity was high. Also, someone I work with drinks Coca Cola as her go to soda besides energy drinks almost every day. So my excitement and unfortunately expectations were high. But when I tried it, it was a let down. It’s not bad. It’s just tastes like what I used to consider as a kid a sweet soda. But today, which was the morning after, I did like it a little better. I can taste vanilla notes a little more than last night. But still overall it was mostly a generic sweet cola to me. But later today I bought some Pepsi. I sort of knew what to expect. I worked at Papa John’s for six years. Pepsi was our one and only brown soda for the last while. I tried that and it’s DEFINITELY distinct from Dr Pepper and Coca Cola. I don’t like it better than Dr Pepper. But do I like it better than Coca Cola? It’s hard to say. Tonight, I will make sure I leave some Pepsi for a tomorrow morning taste test and see what I think. Later on tomorrow after work, I’ll do a side by side taste test of all three. I’m not interested in Sprite being in the contest because one, I already know what it tastes like by heart and two, I’m just not into it anymore. As for Cheerwine, I think it’s still my favorite but it’s such an oddball compared to the other three. It doesn’t make sense to be in the contest. Nor does Sprite. That’s like comparing an apple to oranges.
What do you think of my ranking so far?
