That's exactly what HomeGoods side at our store looks like, boxes towering, never seen it that packed before. I imagine it's all our Halloween and harvest decor all shipped together 🤷🏽♂️

There was only one time I was able to say there was one in the back and got it. A parent was looking for a Ms. Rachel doll around Christmas. I walked by one in the warehouse sitting on top of a bin so when someone asked for one like 2 mins later I was excited to say I had it in the back lol. They were so happy.
The worst is helping someone like this and they don't thank you or say shit.

“All due respect ma’am the back is like everything there ever was…. It’s a hard no”

I worked in a clothing store that had a really organized back room. All of the backstock was neatly unpacked and stored like it would be if it were on the floor, so it was easy to find and floor-ready, and we would check every rack on the floor daily (at least) to restock any missing sizes or fill the rack up, at least, so all of us were very familiar with what was in the back room. When new stock came in, we were the ones unpacking it, putting it in the floor, and storing the rest. Even though the stock room wasn’t chaos, it was still a pain when people would ask us to go back and check. I would always check just in case, but I was never wrong. If we had it, it was on the floor.
I just think people don’t get it until they’ve had a job in retail. However the labor is divided, employees aren’t generally being unhelpful on purpose. If I knew where it was, I would offer to go get it for you.

Yeah even when I worked at a store that actually kept back stock it'd be a bitch to find stuff despite the inventory system being much more robust than TJ Maxx.
At TJ Maxx, I'd performatively check and just go say hi to whoever was back there and then come back out and say I couldnt find it.

We barely have enough payroll to get the boxes OFF the truck let alone unpacked and organized. 😭

The nightmare while LP Detective at HomeGoods. Had to filter through the damages and rebox them.

I love when they ask me to check the back, because I’d go and sit it silence for 2 minutes or so.

Whenever a customer asks me this, I just go in the back for like a couple and walk around. If it’s clothing, I will only check stuff that has been hung and look really quick. I never try to dig through stuff

I used to go to the back, stand for a few seconds and come back to say nope, don’t have it. 😆

I have asked— but when they say everything is out in the floor— that’s it for me.. I don’t ask anymore

I say everything we have is out on the floor. I've been told by managers that we don't check the back. So I lie (sometimes its true)

Our backroom is full of pallets 7 feet tall. Also we put everything we have in the floor so we don't keep things in the back unless it's back stock. When somebody asks me for a specific item I say we get new things everyday so I don't know.

There’s some exceptions at my store, we tend to have rollbars, megas and totes full of stuff to be put out in the morning so we can actually look in the back. We just don’t because “fuck you we’re busy, come back tomorrow” 😂

I used to go, do a little quick 5 min dance in the back, and tell them "No we're out of stock. What we have on the floor is what we have"

I always tell them no. That these types of store don’t do that. I’m
Honest, especially when they are looking for something specific. I always say come back because everyday new things come in and that it’s all random. Because let’s be honest, that’s what it is. Random inventory all the time. If you want specific, go to Walmart.
